I need help with collecting American coinage!

Hello,

As some of you may know, I'm English and Believe it or not I collect English coins

Although, since I've been on this forum I have started to get really interested in American coinage.

I want to know how I could acquire American coinage in England easier. I haven't seen any for sale really

And I need to know basic information on American coinage.

Also I would like to know what a 'roll search' is..

A roll search is simply going to your local bank and asking for rolls of coins to bring home to search for better dates and/or silver. If you want a good primer on US coins you should purchase a copy of what is commonly called the Red Book. The longer title is The Official Red Book-A Guide to United States Coins. This should be available through Amazon or other online book dealers and will set you back $15-$20. This single book will give you an enormous intorduction into US coinage. Good luck!

grab a copy of "red book" by r.s. yeoman, it will have all the basic info on american coins.

Now I know what coin rolls are I'm wondering if I can get them in England.

 

The easiest way to get rolls of US coins in England would probably be to find a "roll buddy" - you ship him rolls of English coins, and he ships you rolls of American coins. I'm sure there is probably someone interested in this sort of arrangement.

imo, american coins quit having character when they stopped putting lady liberty on the coins and started putting dead presidents on them. so the ones with character will be hard to find in rolls.

 

Hmm, I'll probably keep what I want and sell the rest...I dunno if I'm wrong about rolls but thats the impression I got and thought I could do.

 

I might be able to send you American coins. No charge. I did this for a cointalk member from Egypt and was happy to do it. Let me look around the house and see what I can send. I also have an extra Red Book. I will get back to you in the next few days.

Don't worry. Save your money. I have plenty of extra coins and would be happy to give you a nice variety of US coinage plus the Red Book for reference. I think you will be very happy. I have a good buddy of mine who is a postman over in Poole. I send him stuff from the States (non coin related) once in a while. I will get back to you soon with the items I will send by PM.
