I know I haven't really been very active here for the past couple of years. There's been a lot going on in my life, a bunch of personal issues that needed to be taken care of. I sorta drifted away from active numismatics, although I still bought a thing or two when I saw a piece I liked.

Well, most of my life issues have been dealt with (or, are getting better), and so now I'm going to slowly rejoin the discussion.

So gather round, grab your cup of tea, and take a look at this beauty. Guess the grade if you want. You can guess the die state as well, if you have the new Die State Progressions booklet that the Bust Half Nut club put out (the die states on this die marriage are really interesting)

I have no idea about grade or die state. What I do know is that coin I could fall in love with. The dramatic flow lines are beautiful and the die cracks on the obverse give it so much character. Thankyou for brightening my Sunday

Great to see you back. Totally understand the life issues. I did exactly the same the last 2 years and have only fairly recently been posting again myself. I haven’t bought hardly anything myself. But this is a beauty. So hard to find an early date CBH. With color. My guess AU 50. Some wear but still good luster. As to Overton. I don’t have my book handy as I’m away

It is the 1808/7 overdate. There is only one overdate Overton for this date - O-101.

Whenever I don't have my book handy, I use this website: http://maibockaddict.com/capped-bust-half-dollars.shtml

Nice coin. You did well. I'll guess 45 or 50.

Good to see ya, Jason. We missed you. That coin is a stunner. Don't see very many CBH tonners.

Thanks. CHB Toners are out there if you're patient, and willing to spend the money. I only buy multicolored toned, eye appealing Bust Halves (or prooflike, of course, haha).

My guess would be AU-50. These first coins by John Reich often had inconsistent strikes.

Here is an 1807 "50 over 20" variety. The "5" in "50" was entered upside down and then right side up. This one is graded AU-53.

I think it would grade closer to ex-40, but who cares? It is beautiful beyond mere grade points and I would choose in in a heart beat over an au-50 with less appeal.

A lot of the “missing detail” was never there.

Loving the toning. No idea on grade. Awesome coin. Envy is the word.

Gorgeous, for sure. Looks like a 40 to 45 but if the missing details are all about the strike I would be interested in knowing.... Can you tell us the grade?

I'll tell the grade tomorrow. I want to let the evening crowd have a chance to guess :)

Beauty, AU-50 if not higher. Stars are well struck and center details never existed.

Good guesses everyone! PCGS called this an XF-45, and it has a CAC sticker. Based on the level of wear, I think 45 is the right grade for this piece.

Because of the extraordinary eye appeal (and really good luster for an XF coin), I paid a strong AU-50 price for it.
