In my box of foreign I have found another American coin. I now have 3 American coins.

If you could tell me about it or give me a price that would be awesome!

That was the last year of the 90% silver coins made for circulation. In 1965 the mint cut the silver content down to 40%, called clads.

After 1970, the US Mint stopped using silver in circulation strikes all together and now only uses silver in their mint and proof sets.

That's a nice coin, and wise to hold on to it.

In that condition, about 10x over face value or around $5.

Oh awesome, apparently my grandad give me this coin and he was given it by my great grandad along with a lot of other coins.

I must of just thrown it in the foreign box when we moved house, not knowing what it was or its value.

Still $5 for free isn't bad.

I won't sell it though, as I said I'm going to display it probably.

What would be nice is to find/acquire a 1963 Franklin half dollar to go along with that Kennedy, and you'll have a last and first issue when the US Mint changed the half dollar design.

So the 63 is only gonna cost me $5?

If anyone has one, I'd be happy to buy.

There are factors you have to consider, grade; MS over PRF, raw versus slabbed, etc.

Some Franklins that are slabbed and proof coins are running anywhere from $10 - $15.

If you find a raw 63 Franklin, no more than $5 for it, can be found.

Like I said in my PM, it isn't necessary to send me anything. When you get older, you might remember this, and do the same thing for some other young numismatist.

The Kennedy Half Dollar was issued months after the American President was assasinated and became extremely popular worldwide as a result. As stated, it is 90% silver so at today's silver price, its "Melt Value" is just slightly over $6.66. It is a very nice coin, still being minted through this year and the forseeable future. However, since 2002, these have not been released for circulation, and only produced for collectors.

In 1964 it was 90% silver. 1965 through 1970 it was 40% silver. From 1971 to present it is copper/nickel mix.

This coin is definitely a keeper for you!
