Looks like a 1916 or 1918. I do know there was DDO for this year. Also noticed in the feathers looked doubled. Does this happen to many Buffalo Nickels? 20221020_132120.jpg 20221020_132256.jpg 20221020_13_19_22.png 20221020_13_18_07.png 20221020_13_17_59.png 20221020_132133.jpg

I think you may have hit the jackpot. Looks like a 1916 DDO to me. When the date is worn off, the feathers are a giveaway. But I think I see a 6 lurking in the date and it looks right, too. Perhaps someone else with more expertise than I have can chime in. Where did you get this, in a roll?

If you don’t mind reducing value by 70-90%, soak in a solution of apple cider vinegar and hydrogen peroxide for 45min to 1 hour. It will reveal the date. Typically it’s not worth it for mintmarkless coins, but if it’s a DDO could be worth a few bucks.

Screenshot_20221020-191526_Chrome.jpg Could this be MD also? I would think the ribbons would be thicker.

Based on the last picture I see a partial 6.It doesn't appear to be any NAV types ,I think you hit the mini jackpot!!!.

I'm not seeing DDO on your specimen. I'm leaning MD. I think that the ribbons would be the diagnostic of interest, and I don't see anything there that looks like the VV photo.

I would have done the same thing, Larry. If you want to experiment further, do a higher percentage of white vinegar and lower for the hydrogen peroxide. It will slow down the etch and give you more control on revealing a date and anything else (1918/17?). I think we have MD here, but as I noted, I would have finally pickled the nickel to find out one way or the other.
