Agreed. But I did specify "cost of the wax", not "cost of having waxed".

But, paying more to have somebody wax your car would only make sense under a few conditions:
    - You are paying somebody with more expertise to do a better job, or
    - You are being charged more because the service provider knows that they can get more money out of you.

Using this analogy for the TPG situation, this would amount to:
    - Providing better service for those that can pay (and lesser service for the rest of us)
    - Charging rich people more money, simply because they can

Neither one of those sit well with me. What would "better service" even be in this case? Either way, you send a coin to them and it comes back in a slab with grade information...... it's the same thing. And, wrenching more money out of people just because you can...... That's not a valid justification.

I can see charging more when the company actually incurs more costs, like being more careful and taking more time with expensive coins, or purchasing insurance, etc. But in the extreme cases, like having a $1M ancient coin graded by NGC, the cost would be over $20,400 in comparison to the $45 base rate. Is the company incurring over 450 times the costs for one coin verses the other? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no.

Its pretty clear you just dislike the TPGs. It'd honestly be helpful to others if you just stayed out of TPG threads with people asking questions instead of just repeating the same stuff over and over thats been answered for you already and has nothing to do with helping someone asking for help

Read their guarantee. PCGS does indeed buy back coins.

Every coin in my collection is in a TPG holder, I value their services more than most. I do not dislike TPGs, I just have some critical opinions about some of their approaches to monetization ...... Can a person not hold those two perspectives at the same time?

It'd honestly be helpful if you stop pursuing this self-appointed, post-policing activity. If you feel that a post is worth responding to, then respond. If not, then don't. Easy.

This is interesting, and something that I had not taken into account. However, "We are charging you more money just in case we have to purchase your coin due to our own mistake" doesn't sound like great justification either. Especially when the guarantee is self-imposed.

I just submitted to ngc in the world coins economy tier. It was a fairly easy submission, bit nothing I had was worth $300+. Youtube dealers have several videos that walk you through how they do things. Also, I sent mine in a box within a small priority flat rate box with the edges sealed with regular packaging tape with signature confirmation and extra insurance. Just the first two or three copies of the submission form, each flip labeled with submission number and line item plus the agreement and payment page. Had it been worth thousands of dollars, it would have been sent registered. Hope that's clear as mud to ya!
