I have an 1849 gold coin.
The one side reads 'the Lord Holiness
The other side reads Pure Gold Ten Dollars, has 2 hands shaking, there appears to be a T above the hands

Is this real and if so, what do you think it might be worth?

You need to get a catalog on private gold. Someone on here can probably reccomend one.

It would be a Mormon $10 gold coin minted in Salt Lake City. If genuine, they are worth many thousands.

But that is the question, is it genuine. Fakes abound.

The person you need to contact is Bob Cambell at All About Coins in Salt Lake City. He is one of, if not the leading expert in the world on these coins. You cna look up his shop (named above) in the phone book.

You are describing a Mormon $10 gold and there are far more fakes-replicas-copies-counterfeits on the market than there are legitimate examples. My immediate reaction is that you have one of these ubiquitous fakes.

Look on the edge of the coin. The replicas have "Copy" written on the side.
