I bought this on ebay a couple of weeks ago and it arrived today. It a 2 ounce silver piece entitled "Frida y Diego". On one side is "Los Dos Fridas, 1939" (The Two Fridas) by Frida Kahlo and on the other side is "Desnudo Con Alcatraces, 1944" (Nude with Calla Lilies) by Diego Rivera.

A few years ago I was enthralled by the movie "Frida" (2002) where the artist Frida was played by Salma Hayek. It's a great movie about an amazing artist. When I found out this coin/medallion was coming out I had to have one. I tried to order it several times locally but for some reason it never became available. I bid on this one and won it at a really good price.

It's a work of art that I'm going to keep in my personal collection.

For more info on Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, here's the wikipedia link:

Frida was an amazing artist, but her life was a tragedy. Although it was her tormented life where she got most of her inspirations.

The coin is a very good representation of Frida's art. My wife did a report on Frida while in college and I became quite fond of Frida and her work. I'll have to get this coin too...thanks for sharing!

I'm really pleased with the quality and detail on the coin. It's far better than I had expected.

Interesting that this piece has the Mexico City mintmark on it.

I was there a couple of years ago and the mint was advertising these in a few places -- signs downtown, sides of news kiosks, and so on. I went to their shop and turned around immediately when I saw the prices. :(

    Certainly a cool piece.

I love that artist's work also. As an artist who has created over a thousand self-portraits, I have always had an atrraction to this particular artist as well as Rofino Tomayo (spelling may be wrong, I've been out of the art world for awhile).

Great coin. Hold on to it. Shame on someone who might melt it someday in the future. It is indeed a nice art piece of its' self.

When they first came out, I was told they would be over $125.00. I was lucky that they weren't readily available and that I had to wait until now to get one because I was able to get this off of ebay for under $75 (shipping included). Most get auctioned for over $100.

It really is a gorgeous piece and one that I'll keep forever.

I like Tamayo as well. His style is like a cross between Picasso and Miro, almost a cubist/fantasy look.

Thanks for the links. I never thought of looking at the Mexican Mint!
