Heck, I keep goin' back to the Allman Bros, Live at the Fillmore East.......in all my years I think that is one of the greatest rock albums ever produced. Best thing old Millard did was to send Commodore Perry to Japan and open up some trade routes.........man that came back to bite us in the burro, didn't it?
I have to agree that the Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East is a great album. I really like the elongated cent in your opening. I went to high school in Port Jeff and after my mom died we sold the house in Port. The house had been built in 1839 and we were the third family to live in it, we were there for 50 years. There was clause in the contract for bands that played the Fillmore East. They couldn't perform anywhere within a fifty mile radius of the Fillmore. Stony Brook University was about 51 miles away and many bands said that, we have our equipment here, we can pick up a quick few thousand dollars, so let's play at Stony Brook. In my youth I saw just about every top rock and roll band that was popular in the late 60s and early 70s. Pink Floyd, Hendix, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Moody Blues, etc. plus a fair number of folkies such as Tom Rush, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Phil Ochs, etc. Crazy and fun times. I was not aware that there a penny rolling machine in Port Jefferson. Do you know where in the Village that coin was rolled?
Great photogs as usual, I love all the pieces. I would love to know the story behind the building being pulled down the train tracks on the Alliance Diamond Jubilee medal. Any town proclaiming to be the cattle capital of Nebraska is ok by me. And you're a man after my own heart when it comes to The Bros Live at The Fillmore
There was a guy who was a member of the Massapequa Coin Club who was writing a book about local elongated's many years ago but danged if I can remember his name (but I know he moved to Pennsylvania). He was the person who mentioned the 'press' to me but I know not where it was located, and I never did search out the the machine location (wasn't interested in 'smashed pennies' at the time). I probably should ask my daughters........they spent a lot of time down in 'Port' during their high school days.
