Yes we have seen it That occurs because of Circulation wear and tear... 38 years worth! Some might say it could be a small Die Chip (which we have all seen also) but that is really common and nothing major at all.
I assume that you are referring to my avatar. That is a 1998-S Kennedy with a satin finish. It was produced solely for the 2-coin commemorative set with the RFK $1 coin. Here is a better image....... Chris
Yes, I have the same on a 1979 D Jefferson Nickel. It appears they minted quite a bit of coins in 1979 and the dies were worn pretty well. That said, I have not seen many and documentation on value is not available either. My research has discovered it could be valued around 450 but, can't confirm that. Still a nice find.
$450.00? Not even $4.50 It's a Die Chip.. No premium at all for that. Whoever pays that amount or tries to sell it for that much is a FOOL! Please do not share false information. Mr. Ed - Specializing in collecting Mint Errors since 1986
Pardon me but, there are people that seek out and buy these Errors or mint anomalies and yes, they pay for them. Just because you don't want it or believe its not valuable doesn't mean others don't. As for stating my comment is False information, you are wrong and should remove it immediately as this is NOT that. You do not get to censor comments or remark to their validity. You may want to go check out U Tube where coin people are routinely showing Error coins despite the fact they are not in databases. Perhaps your Error chases and specimens false too according to others. Please try to be more polite in the future. TY
Buddy.. You don't know me very well. I am the most polite person you will ever meet. A Die Chip is a worn die issue. Don't you understand that? It's not a major mint error and it should not carry a premium. Yes there are some good YouTube videos that provide great information but unfortunately there are many that are full of false information. You need to understand the minting process, how true errors occur, true values for some issues. Many newbies don't know much and make up false information. Again.. It is foolish to pay any kind of premium for such minor issues. I'm here to correct and give the best information. There are many members here on CoinTalk that can attest to that. And I and they do it for free! I say the truth to help collectors.. not confuse them like you try to do. I will not remove my statement and I'm sure the moderators of this forum will agree with what I said.
First of all, I am not a newbie and have been a numismatist for over 45 years. I know what a die chip is and what worn dies do, however, your specific choice of not wanting and believing some are valuable is just that, your opinion. Other people believe in them, collect them and pay for them. That said, there are New Errors being discovered every day with New coins and older ones that no one had any idea of the error. As to your claim of righting misinformation, you are your own monitor as this is not a fact site and I am confident no one is requesting your so called information corrections. Personally, I would think you would be more open-minded regarding coins as I am again very confident you do not know everything just as I don't state I do. Try to have fun and maybe refrain from calling others comments misinformation, wrong, inaccurate or other things. Good day.
I agree with you, however, I routinely see people pay NGC or PCGS value for graded coins or even more for the CAC designation that I believe is not necessary or validated in the least but, they do it anyway. I have stated online and in coin seminars that a sticker on the outside of a capsule verifying the grade on the inside is ridiculous for one and for two...can't be done properly through the capsule at all. I personally require equity in my coins and never pay its value or over, EVER. Yet, there are many that do and don't care and that is the difference between a numismatist, a coin collector or just a coin person. Hope you agree. have a great day.
This post is 5 years old!! You can still see some of the incused interior of the mm. How can you call it a filled mm? Please do your research and stop posting inaccurate info. This does nothing but confuse new collectors. That is absolutely irresponsible on your part. You are doing a major disservice to new collectors. I recall that you kept posting a lot of inaccurate, nonsense information a few months ago. PLEASE STOP POSTING INACCURATE INFORMATION!
@DANIEL HENRIQUEZ a few things spring immediately to mind. "Advice" you have given in the past has not been appropriate or accurate and you appear to be keeping in the same vein. If after all your so called years experience I would have thought you could tell what is minor as opposed to major errors. Lastly, lambasting and contradicting such an experienced error collector as @paddyman98 is frankly confirming that you know less than you think.
To me you haven't learned a single thing. Again.. Fools I've received plenty of thanks from tons of newbies over the years. I admit I don't know everything. Everyone here knows I've stated that many times. But I and many others know enough not to pay a premium for a die chip. $450.00? Basura! Informacion incorecta I have plenty of fun on this forum. See my threads and you might learn something!
