Less than that. I’m guessing (based on a conversation I had with an insider [not OUR Insider]), that it will end 3-6 months after the start of the grading company.
I saw something similar today. No information on what happens then. Does the current CAC function of identifying A and B coins then just go away? Or is it somehow integrated into the new grading? For example, you send a coin in, they grade it, and then identify it as an A, B or C coin. It still gets graded and slabbed even if it's a C coin since a C coin is just at the lower end of the grade. Presumably, there would be no coins that would previously have earned a gold bean (undergraded) since they would grade the coin appropriately from the gitgo. Presumably D coins (overgraded) don't exist in this world. Under this scenario, there would be two categories of CAC slabs: Those that are A or B quality for the grade and those that are just at the lower end of the quality scale for the grade. I guess the slab would somehow make this clear. Just speculation. I have no inside knowledge. I eagerly await more details. BTW, no one at my LCC meeting Wednesday night had even heard anything at all about this.
If I were them, I'd announce that the new company will be slabbing coins in their previous TPG slabs, as existing TPGs do with the GSA holders. Of course, I'd make the announcement on April 1.
They’ll grade the A coins (for example) MS65. But the C coins will be MS64. The B coins could fall on either side depending on the consensus of the graders.
With the money they make they could easily pay for more quality people, raise the fee and people are going to pay it, just that simple.
How much can it cost on a high-end coin to get it graded -- let's say, $50,000 -- to get it graded by a TPG and then graded by CAC? Is it really cost-prohibitive for the collectors who have them ?
When they become really popular and start hiring away existing employees of the other TPG's, imagine what that will do to the wait times . . . . . Z
They were facing increased backlog of coins because submissions have apparently gone up a ton. Not sure what coins they are seeing (gold, silver, small denomination, etc.). https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-coins/cac-suspends-firm-s-normal-tier-service-for-june Is there any source -- listed or anectdotal -- about what coins are being sent in to CAC ? Or what has actually been stickered in the aggregate ?
Actually reading further, there will be just three graders with JA as a tie-breaker if required. That put's a serious upper limit on the # of coins a new CAC Grading will be able to process. They will also be phasing out the current sticker service, although it might continue in some very limited form for current members, there was something in there about 20 coins per quarter or year.
I am sure there going to get slammed right off the bat ! with only three graders not sure I am liking that turn around time
Since this is CT, not PCGS' board I can safely say it and not get banned... Most of the fan-boys will want their stuff re-graded in the blessed slabs. https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-coins/cac-grading-service-planned-for-start-in-2023 https://www.greysheet.com/news/stor...ompany-exclusive-interview-with-john-albanese
Bill S and John B I know of. Bill has been with CAC a long time. John was at PCGS for a very long time.
