I just sent some notes to PMG and they assigned a "VF 25 (trimmed)" grade to this note. Does this look like a VF 25? (does being trimmed knock this down that much?) Maybe I am awful at grading, but i think this might be the best looking VF 25 i've ever seen.
It does look like an excellent note on the surface but i cant see any folds Or creases from this pic!!
the note was more than likely pressed which is why it looks so clean, if you look at the note under UV lighting you can see creases the naked eye cant.
That is a nice looking note. If PMG gave it a 25 there is a reason. This is why buying raw notes from ebay is dangerous not that you bought it from an ebay seller. That not looks unc in the picture.
It looks a lot better then 25 ,cut it out of that PMG holder.Try PCGS and see what you get if you have an account. If you look at the back it might be a tiny bit off center from top to bottom but trimmed.....from that front picture I don't see it ? Very nice $1 Educational note !
The note could be the cleanest looking thing in the world to the naked eye, if they put it under UV lighting and find creases it will severely hurt the grade, which is more than likely the case here.
Like i said before the note does look good but put under the UV lighting is Probably exposing alot of flaws you just cant see with the naked eye!!
ditto  I would suggest you invest in a UV light, and a frosted piece of plastic (that covers over the flourescent strip lights) place the UV light under the plastic, and place the note on top of it. Dim the room lighting as much as possible and you will see tons of imperfections.
Here's mine. It's a PCGS VF-20. I wish I had gotten a better specimen, as the $1 Educational Series is my favorite note of all time, but that's all I could afford at the time. Anyways, I can't speak to whether your specimen was ironed etc., but I do see a significant difference considering the grade to which your specimen was assigned. Then again, I have a lot to learn with respect to currency grading.
Phubanks - Friendly FYI... in case you didn't already know... One can typically find them at the local drug or grocery stores. They are sometimes sold as "black light", or "party bulb". In either case, just look for a standard light bulb that has a really really dark-blue/purple appearance. With the bulb, you can easily screw it into any standard lamp. On a side note, for security purposes, I use an ultra-violet marker to invisibly mark a small symbol on the cardboard or an innocuous area on my holders/slabs. That way, if there's ever a "situation" where I'd need to prove a specimen is mine, all I have to do is shine a black light onto the holder/slab. (That's provided, of course, the specimen isn't removed from it's protective holder. Never mark a coin directly with anything!)
Cheetah ... thanks for the black light tip!! On the education note ... i agree with you ... it's by far my favorite!!! Most people in this country have never seen one -- so it's cool to own one. I still have to say that it's amazing that my note only graded 5 points higher than yours (both a low grade VF ... yours a 20 and mine a 25)
This should make both of you's feel better...This Raw one of mine has so many creases in it they would minus -25 mine.so I wouldn't even submit it.
Yes I like all the entire series $1-$2 forget about the $5 it's untouchable on my budget, someday maybe. But I think I can just sit on the $1 for now till a better graded one comes around or trade up if the opportunity happens.
