I opened up a 1987 Uncirculated Set from the original cardboard box it was sent in and I noticed the Denver cent inside looks like some sort of copper plating problem? Any error collectors that might know what specifically this is? Thanks.
Looks like the cent got caught in the heat crimper as the markings on the cent match the crimping of the mint pack.
The photo is distorting. It could be a strike through. Take a photo with all the other coins out of the way, not out of the package, just out of the photo.
If those marks are raised it’s plating blisters. If those marks are below the face of the coins surfaces they are strike throughs. If the are on the surface of the coin then it’s mint caused damage.
Those are no plating blisters or strike-through. They're on the rim and the reverse, too, and they're not toning or roller or bag marks or grease. Something scuffed up against this coin at the Mint to make that, is what it looks like to me. Just what? I got no clue.
