Help me with my hammered coin!!

    Hello...


    I'm having a bit of trouble on finding out what this hammered coin is...


    I'm pretty sure its an Edward I, Bury St Edmund's Penny...

    Also a rough estimate on its value would be great..I got it in group of coins off ebay. I paid roughly £8 for it.

    ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE GREAT! THANKS.

    those look like pretty good pictures to me, nice coin don't know anything about it though

    I have been researching the coin and I now know it is an Edward II penny minted in Bury St Edmund's.

    I agree, Edward II, minted 1310-14 JJ North Class XI, 1061 b.

    Boy I hope you don't post many of those. I am not familar enough with the early British coinage and it takes me forever to look them up :D

    No, I don't actually - to both comments. I merely have the books that allow me to look them up.

    I got it in a job lot of loads of really good coins from Ebay :D

    I'm selling most of them off.

    That will work for most coins. But to accurately attribute the hammered coinage, you will need the JJ North books that I told you about.
