As posted in other thread, I believe this recent coin find is a 1913-D nickel. This is a very worn coin which does not show the date on the obverse and only a small remnant of a mint mark on the reverse.

The reverse displays the buffalo on raised ground which was only applicable in 1913. As regard to the mint mark, the visible part appears to be a D. Attached are pictures of the said coin. I would appreciate comments on whether my deductions are plausible. Thanks!

Yes, it looks like it. If you soak it in household white vinegar overnight in the morning you'll have a partial date.

That will definitely damage the coin, but it has so much wear that it probably won't make a difference. Since the date is easily identifiable by the reverse, I personally would leave it alone, but understand why you may want to try to raise it

Yeah, it's the condition, the wear and the scratch and the potholes. Up to him. It's not going to grade, either way. Personally, I'd like to see some date.

IMO it takes much more wear to blend the mound and FIVE CENTS on a Type 2.

Thanks for all of the responses. My preference is to keep the coin as is. Not many coins can reveal the exact year by looking at the reverse. Kind of neat in a weird way.
