    I stand my my post...

    Fair yes!
    Lame yes!

MPCUSA, the sellers and the OP made a contractual agreement that the seller is not wanting to change after the deal was made. He is doing all he agreed to so it is FAIR.

Pilkenton, you want to amend this contract with a slight deversion that seems reasonable seeing it's such a small town and your willingness to accomidate the seller with where, when, ect....so it does seem a bit LAME of him to pass on this.

So can we all agree to this and let it die :D

Got my coin today. Only took two days. It came in a plain white envelope with a 44 cent stamp. It was taped along the seal only. It was wrapped loosely in a half of a page from a grey sheet, which tells me this guy was a pro. Was all this worth 3.50 s&h?

I got a funny feeling that the seller is the local coin store owner in town. He's a real tightwad. Here's an example, once I bought $300 worth of coins from him. My nine year old (she was probably six or seven at the time) wanted a two dollar pack of Pokemon cards. I asked him, since I spent so much money, could he throw in the cards for free. He said no. His excuse was how was he supposed to make a living giving things away.

Ever since then I've avoided him. That's what I'm going to do with this seller.

BTW, there was no return address on the envelope.

I won't dis the guy. I got what I wanted for the price I wanted to pay.

If this was the local coin store, I would have thought he would have wanted to let me know. But being the tightwad he is, I can see him doing this. Maybe that's why he didn't leave a return address.

No, but the coin was worth a lot more than $3.50. The breakdown of what the coin cost and the s&h is irrelevant. You paid $7 for a $6.50 coin and it cost approximately $.50 to send to you. It was a smooth transaction.

Sorry, but it seems like you want something for nothing. He built in the s&h to make sure he didn't lose money, and you wanted him to loose money. Now, since he was fair, you will avoid him. You wanted your coin dealer to give you something for nothing and when he balked, you avoid him as well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that you want to get over on people and when you don't, you refuse to do business with them in the future.

While I understand that meeting you might have been good business and throwing in the cards may have been a good gesture, expecting businesspersons to loose money (what you asked in both cases) seems like you are the one that is unfair. Just giving my opinion, I'm not meaning to flame, but that is what I think.

Looks to me like you got excellent service within the contractual obligations of the auction. The seller deserves nothing less than positive feedback.

He paid $3.50 for a 44 cent stamp. He did not pay $7 for the coin.

I might not give the guy a neg or neut, but I would at least give him 1 star for shipping costs.

I'd also visit the coin store and after 10 or 15 minutes bring up the whole sordid story and see what his reaction is.

Why? The buyer agreed to the charges, no one forced him to bid.

1 star is reserved for using a cheaper shipping method than stated in the auction, or shipping much later than stated, or poor packaging causing harm.

I wish some of these buyers would try selling on ebay, then they might make reasonable responses. I can't believe some alleged CT seller wanted to neg this seller.

Once again, $3.50 for a 44 cent stamp, an envelope and a piece of scrap paper. That's gouging.

FYI, I've been buying and selling on ebay and other sites for over 10 years.

If you don't like the terms, I have a real simple answer: Don't bid!

Otherwise, when you do bid, you agree to accept those terms. Don't take it out on the seller.

Couldn't disagree with you more. It was clearly marked when he bid. He paid $7 for the coin, the envelope, the stamp, the handling, and the delivery of the coin.

Would you have felt better if the S&H was .$75 and he paid $6.25 for the coin? If you answer yes, I would counter that you're nuts because either way, it is $7.

When you buy a car, some dealerships will charge you for the floormats, the protective seal on the paint, inventory, etc., etc., but if another place doesn't have those charges, but your cost out the door was the same thing, what does it matter?

Some people just like to be private.I wouldnt let it bother me if I already thought I was going to pay shipping to begin with.

add:but I would be a bit upset about the overcharged shipping.

In my opinion, shipping and handling charges should be used for shipping and handling, not as insurance for the seller to make sure he gets what he wants for something. That is deceptive business practice.

I always add the shipping when I bid on something. Everybody does. I would never pay more than seven bucks for a Kennedy half.
Would it have been different if the bidding went up to $10 + the s&h?

I'm not griping about anything, but living in a small town should justify a little courtesy.

As for the dealer losing money on a pack of dusty Pokemon cards, he should be giving that stuff away to every kid that walks into his shop. He would benefit more from his kindness than he would with his greed.

First off, I see no reason to be upset because he is going to get the coin in the mail rather than in hand. That is just what he bargained for.

However, as for your question about the 75¢ postage, I would definitely feel better if it were from a new (to me) dealer. In fact, I would pay more for such a coin. I figure that if he is not trying to jew every nickel and dime from eBay, he would be less likely to be trying to take every quarter and half from me.

I can't believe this thread has reached 7 pages long about an item with a total cost less than $10. Furthermore, I couldn't even consider giving a seller negative feedback on an item less than $10 unless he didn't send it. However, giving the seller a 1 or 2 star rating is perfectly acceptable. I just gave a seller a 2 star rating on shipping costs because he charged $16.50 S&H and when I got the coin the shipping charge was $11.78.

IMHO this thread is more about courtesies then price. The price does not matter. It is just the lack of courtesy between seller and buyer. The buyer paid for the item, and is not upset about price (though the $.44 stamp would tick me off). He originally asked what we felt. He has not disrespected the seller, as far as I know, and was only asking our opinions.

    Regards,

Its obvious here that the seller wanted to make money of the shipping
And handling charges, Especially with a 44 cent stamp upon delivery!!!
That would really tick me off!!! And again not leaving his return address
On the envelope in my opinion very "Shady" If i was the buyer here and
This happen to me i would not leave any feedback, And e-mail the buyer
And tell him why, But doing business this way is not professional!!
