Hi, I found this nickel in a roll from the bank and wanted to get thoughts on if this is an error or what? First, there is no rim and the coin appears to have a different finish than the other nickels, like a proof finish. It also appears to be a little smaller than the other nickels but still a little bigger than a penny. On the Reverse side, nothing but a very small part of the building is visible.
First off, Welcome to CT! Second, sorry to say, but this is PMD (Post Mint Damage). It may be a magician's coin...
Thank you for the warm welcome I always find the strangest things and none ever of any value. Thanks for the information.
Keep looking, you will find something eventually... But don't forget, keep what interests YOU, don't let others tell you what or what not to keep.
Hi and welcome to CT. It is possible that the reverse was ground away and polished, the rim removed, and then encased in a bezel for use as a necklace, ring etc
@Kim Marino On the newer nickels, the most obvious places for errors are at "Liberty" on the obverse, which tends to have die chips at the "e". And most doubled dies will occur in the reverse main doorway or in the triangle above the doorway. Not much else is usually going on with these beside this.
