How does one go about grading a modern Quarter?
    Anyone else like the design?
When you are grading don't forget these are clad.
I took every photo in the same position and settings.

    Boy, tough crowd.
I forgot how much people despise grading moderns.

As for the coins Sal. 4 out of the 5 would grade MS.

I would grade all at least a 62,depending on the reverses a few 63's are possible.

62 or 63 sounds about right.

I noticed and set one of these aside the other day. Just put the 5x to it. Full of gorgeous mint luster and planchet flaws. Good question, Pickin. Feels lighter in hand than an older clad, too?

I will get the reverses posted here soon.
What I will remind everyone watching and reading is that these are a clad planchet and most of what you see is a planchet defects.
These coins don't show the same luster as we are used to with the old designs, and each different reverse is going to cause weakness on the obverse in different areas. No matter how well the coin was struck.
So, I guess what I am saying is that we have to almost forget roughness in the highest points of the design. Just focus on the contact and any abrasions in the luster.
And above all the strike has to be full or near full to grade anywhere near 65.

I like putting away rolls of newly released coins and try to only put the best ones away that I can find.

    So, here is an MS66
The scrape and contact on the cheek, IMO should have kept this coin at a 65 or lower,
Thats besides the point. This coin below is riddled with Planchet roughness.
