I have a tupperware bowl full of Canadian coins myself from the many times I've been there over the years. It looks like the Loony is counterstamped? And euros don't circulate in Canada, as pointed out in the post above. Somebody slipped it in for a dollar. And a '59 cent is always cool.
here's a website about their coinage ==> Coins and Canada - Canadian coins price guide, value, errors and varieties
I have done several searches to find out if there is anything counter stamped, I found nothing for my coin.
The dollar coin is nicknamed a Loonie for the bird on it. The cent is nice as they no longer make cents in Canada.
Sometimes a counterstamp is just some random knucklehead with a hammer and a punch in his garage having fun or passing time. I can't really tell from your photo if yours is counter stamped or not.
Nope. It was done that way during the minting of the coin. Here is a picture from the Numista website. It is considered a security feature showing a maple.
In 2001 Canada had this Hologram gold coin. Mine is still in the original capsule. being right on the Canadian border we used to get a lot of canadian money as general change. The stores around here used to accept a Canadian quarter equal to a US quarter. In the past 5 years though many places stopped accepting Canadian currency, although their cent still made it through.
@paddyman98 @meandyou4ever0 His information on the Loonie is 100% correct. Look no further. As for the Canadian Cent, someone may know the last year of production for them but I don’t. It’s been a number of years now that Canada stopped minting them.
2013 the last year of distribution. A lot of internet articles out there about it, wiki, etc. here's one from Canadian Broadcasting Corporation ==> Obituary: Canadian penny, 1858-2013 | CBC News
Thank you. I knew someone would know the answer. Hard to believe it’s been that long. It’s nice that Canada didn’t use zinc for their cents.
I get a lot of Canadian coinage and I separate it from the US currency when I go through it. here's a few - I had to tone it down because the quarter was so reflective.
