This is a 1972 DDO, a doubled die obverse. Graded by PCGS with the old green label as a MS-66 Red.Just under 3 billion 1972 cents were minted at the Philadelphia Mint but it is unknown how many of these were doubled. I’ve had this coin since the mid 1990’s.

My 2022 Red Book has a price of $600.00 in MS-65 so they do command a premium. It’s been 50 years ago that this error occurred so finding one in circulation is possible but not likely.

All photos were taken with my cell camera and no magnification. The doubling is quite noticeable.
