Anyone else think this might be counterfeit? http://cgi.ebay.com/Super-strike-19...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item2559d415a7. There are just too many pox on it for me. BTW, these are some pretty descent pictures.
What's PGS? I'm not sure if it's fake. There seems to be flow lines in the fields of the obverse that look normal. Also it seems unusual for a scammer to use such 'revealing' close up pics, but they are not the best shots, a lot of soft edges and severe angles. I would vote that a bad listing / item description (noting the typo above) is doing a lot of harm and the photos try too hard both threaten the legitimacy of the coin. I wouldn't bid for these reasons but I can't tell if it's a fake with 100% certainty either.
I just noticed this. Is that a word between the Y in LIBERTY and the W? I think I can even read it. Does it say what I think it says?
If anything else it just looks odd!! The color or lighting doesnt look Right but here again iam no expert!
Do you think the word 'COPY' is stamped there? rotated on it's side? I can't see the same mark in the last image of the obverse.
That's a fingerprint. I have a mark like that on a 24 Peace obverse. It's a real mercury dime, but the seller is not for real on that price for all the bag marks and wear on it. A MS mercury is only worth $20 - $30 tops.
I do not know what you are seeing, but what I am looking at is raised and has some glare shining off of it. And, yes, I think it says "COPY". I could not possibly make it out from in the bottom picture, but I can see enough to know that there is something there.
Ah I see what you are saying, the smudging on the left front of the coin, looks like photoshop at work.
Huh? Between the Y and the W. 180° from where you have marked. Where did you come up with the I and B?
I agree. Looks like someone ran a sharpening filter over it to make the details sharper and then did a bad job using the clone-stamp tool to smooth out the areas where they didn't want the detail to be so sharp.
