My first clipped planchet?

    I really don't look much for error coins but this stood out like a sore thumb last night in some of my change. I think it is?

    You are correct but the correct term is an incomplete planchet. It has a curved clip. There are several different types of clips. Congratulations on your find and it pays to check that change. :)

    There are curved clips which are the most common. You can also get multiple clips such as this:

    Then there are straight clips and ragged clips. The now tie is not a planchet. It is from the sheet that planchets are made from.

    This is what the sheet or roll looks like. It shows how a single, double or triple curved clip is made. It also shows the ragged edge clip on the left and a straight clip on the edge of the sheets are produced. Hopes this helps and be sure to save as a reference. :)

    That is a nice error coin, in a nice AU condition. I would quess it has been recently returned to circulation.
