I got my Lincoln Chronicles and on the inside there is a reprint of the Gettesberg address. My set has page 1 of the original handwritten text by Lincoln. The next page, page 2 is the same as page 1. I have page 1, twice and no page 2. Has anyone seen this? Could it be worth a premium because of this presentation error or whatever it would be called? Thank you, William in Phx.
Could someone try to replicate the "error" by substituting pages? If so, not worth anything extra, and maybe something less.
The original post was more elloquent Salty....should have left it. Agreed on what my two collegues have stated.
I will swear that is how i got the set. GEE WIZ. Im not crooked. That didnt even occur to me that someone would say that till now. I own a legitimate coin shop as well. thank anyway for your comment. Anyone else have anything CONSTRUCTIVE to say.
I would have to ruin a perfectly good set to make a "fraud".... Think about it.....not very smart. Why would I ask for comments in the first place. To make a countefeit i would have to have a possible payback above and beyond the risk of a prison sentence. And if I thought this far to make a "Fake", why would i be so stupid to ask "Expert" opinions about it and draw attention to myself.
Hold it friend, nobody is calling you a crook fake or a fraud. You asked for an opinion and you got one. Nobody pointed a finger and said "Stinky did it". Relax old fellow.....
I think what they were saying is that if there was a premium on a set like that, could it be replicated by a crook and that person profit from being deceptive. I didnt see any implication that they were calling you a crook my friend.
It would probably come under packing errors, such as having 2 of one coin and none of another, which do not normally command a premium as an error. Someone might like it for the novelty interest. It's interesting if nothing more.
OK. The only way it could have been done was during the assembly process of the set. So it is just a packaging error and not that big a deal.. thanks for your input.
I would say no, no premium. If I were buying the set I'd want the whole booklet, as intended. It's not worth more to me incomplete, so I wouldn't pay more. Thats not to say some clown out there wouldn't pay more for less, however. Guy~
If you don't want to keep the book, list it on ebay starting at 99 cents. You might be surprised. Probably not, but you never know!!
I would say that there is a premium for your item to the right person. Collectors collect ANYTHING, and I can say with confidence that there are people out there that collect errors of this nature. It's finding that person, or people, to pay a premium will be the challenge. As most collector's probably would not pay a premium for an error such as the one you have. But seeming how you have the item, cast your line in the water by marketing it with it's error as the selling point, sit back, and wait to see what happens... -LTB
