Each country had "dirty spots in their own history". But we are not politicians, but collectors:)

All that is just your personal imho and nothing else. I know that its a very ,very old and respectable tradition to hang all dead dogs on a loser in any military conflict but one would think that in XXI centuary a person with internet access and an interest in the topic would know that Germans werent the first nor last to kill civilians in WWII en masse . Cheers.

well, again i'm in the minority on this one, but i'll try and answer some of the points made. I would also like to say again "to each his own" I do find it interesting though that our friend form Germany has well proven the fascination (maybe fetization) of the nazis in America, and how people don't want his other coins.

On Disaster Porn: O.K. everyone disaster porn is a concept. It does not mean that you have a sexual desire for oppression its not something you can be "into" it is a criticism of the way we represent the past and suffering . Here is an article about it "No Reprieve For Sarejevo" by the Late anti-historian Jean Boudirad. An easy paraphrase of his argument is "The images of catastrophe and destruction the media/people present in this discoution are like a drug, used by the first world nations to feed off the suffering of the rest of the world. Their efforts to solve these problems are co-productive with the disasters themselves,
Baudrillard in 94 [Jean, “The Illusion of the End” p. 66-71]

In other world we consume these coins in an effort to "rember" ect, but ultimatly it is a from of disrespect.

The My name is offensive: Ugggghhhh... my handle is my old hs football number combined with a song I like. I don't think Hippie Jam Bands are racist, and I know my name is not. Also I would argue that any "name" we give "native americans" sic is oppressive and creates them as an other. Some authors even right that Native American is worse. I'll happily explain more on this, but it is very wack argument. Also Blood quantium arguments are supper racist so please do not make them " unless your x you cant have that name" Its funny that people say things like that when they know Jack about critcal theory and anti oppression scholarship

the "what coins can we collect argument" This is up to each individual to decided for themselves. I think it is in poor taste to collect coins like these. Should they be in a museum for all to see in reverence yes. Should jerks try to profit off them no. Also I don't own Bullion form South Africa, I don't collect roman coins, I def have no coins with stalins face on them or others. I also don't drive a BMW or buy braun coffie pots, or for that matter own anything made by GE. (They made the bomb) Ethical purchasing is hard work, but well worth it.

Ethics and Coins: these threads have lots of value. They force us to investigate the ethical principles we use when we collect. A very worth wile project regardless of how each of us comes to our own truth

The "its just metal argument" I think this is just wrong. If it was true then people would not pay a premium for them. People collect them because they are what they are

The swastika means good luck "cool collect old pagan posters no need to buy these coins. Its the context that it is used. Also classifying Hitler as “crazy” or how ever you phrased it ignores the planed intent of the Hollocaust and is a great disrespect to people who suffered threw it.

Not that it matters to anyone probably, but the sate of Israel and the Jewish community as a whole is against trading of nazi memorabilia like this. I think we should respect their wishes.

Its not a hard idea to understand. If you want to collect WW2 coins collect war nickles or the many other coins form this area. If you want to celebrate history go to the many WW2 memorials and museums their is zero reason why some has to collect these coins. it is a matter of personal preference for what ever reason.

to the dude that said he is fed up with this: Who cares. Its a legit topic. I would ask what makes you so fed up? Why is it hard to confront an idea that disagrees with the way you think

Best wishes to all. Like I said in my first post we are beating a dead horse, but there is a legit debate going on

You don't care that your handle is offensive to Native Americans, yet you're so concerned that collecting coinage with the swastika is offensive. Seems to me you have your cake and are eating it too.

Which bomb, the atomic bomb? Wow, I always thought it was the Manhattan Project, the Army Corps of Engineers and Dr. Robert Oppenheimer who made it happen. But if you say it was GE, that's just great.

But hey, your handle isn't offensive to Americans, so you're cool. Right?

Hitler was a brilliant tactician and charismatic leader. He was also a
megalomaniac, practiced genocide and eugenics, and killed his own people indiscriminately. He *was* crazy. Too bad he lived as long as he did.

I don't really doubt this, but considering the company it's keeping, i.e. the rest of your post, how about some kind of confirmation?

That statement makes no sense. How is calling Hitler "crazy" disrespectful to the 6 million Jews he killed?

So should we suppose that based on your statement, folks shouldn't be able to collect Palestinian coinage, either, if they should choose? But you and Israel made a joint-decision together that collecting Egyptian coinage would be okay, because Israel made peace with Sadat, right?

I guess that means you don't collect any Japanese coinage either; in WWII they committed atrocities against many Asian peoples. And per your comment about not buying various products, I suppose you're somehow magically using fairy dust to post to this forum without a computer. Because if indeed you are using a computer, I can virtually guarantee that you have Japanese components inside that computer of yours.

    Yes it is.

Blueindian - Sorry. I probably should have let it go, it really is a legitimate topic. But I have considered it before, plenty of times. It comes up every time someone posts a Nazi era coin. I've heard every argument for, every argument against. I know you don't feel comfortable collecting them - you don't have to.

Americans truly do have an obsession with WWII, particularly the war in Europe. Like I said, that's because its one of the few wars in history that we can truly be comfortable categorizing as good vs evil. Heck, turn on the History Channel. It might as well be called the Hitler Channel, half the shows are about WWII!

No I think ill collect what I want and let people like you talk all the crap they want. I like them and you can take your views on my collecting them and shove it. Most of your thoughts expressed here are laughable and I pity you for your narrow minded views and lack of knowledge on what you speak about. Funny how your handle is just and old football thing to you so its okay to you- yet the swastika is just an old good luck symbol and its 100% not acceptable to you. In fact, I cant even make a post about these coins with out you saying I am into disaster porn and disrespecting jews. Enjoy never owning a BMW or anything else german. Good day sir.
    / end rant.

Talk about an understatement. Hitler pretty much only killed people. WWII Japanese severely tortured (to death sometimes) prisoners and captives, turned all sorts of Korean, Chinese and Filipino women (among others) into "comfort" women (sex slaves) for their troops and worked POW's literally to death.

Hitler was almost mild compared to the Japanese in WWII. The Japs were horrendous.

We should boycott sushi- that comes from japan and they did bad things at one point! rofls.
No but seriously I think almost every part of the world has done something on par with Germany during WWII and some of them did it with out the duress placed on the German people from WWI.
I find it curious you only chose to boycott german nazi coins, do you refuse to collect any other coins? I mean as others have pointed out even the USA has done some horrible things.

sorry blueindian, this aint really a shot at you, i am just curious on something you said...

you said if you want to collect ww2 coins, collect coins like war nickels and etc. but you won't buy GE products because they made the bomb that USA used, to bomb japan. so doesn't collecting war nickels fall under the same category?

Its funny people say things like I don't know what Im talking about, but in fact im 100% correct. In full disclosure GE sold there nuclear weapons program in 1993, but that was at the same time that George HW Bush put a moratorium on testing and developing nuclear weapons.

Please point out where I have posted something that is factually incorect.

Your own ignorance does not mean that I am wrong

You may have assembled it, but you didn't put the components together. Did you track down where each resistor, capacitor, diode, circuit board, transformer, wire, screw, magnet, LED etc came from? How about where the assembly of each component was done?

I can guarantee you some of those parts came from Japan.

    Ditto.

On My name: It is clear that peope don't understand what im talking about so I'll take a few more mintues to expalin this. The term indian is no more offensive then any other name that western scientist/people try to use to describe the first peoples (it was more then one group) who migrated to America.

As a matter of fact America comes form Amerigo Vespuccci an Italian who like columbus travled to spain and lead expeditions to south america. So to call them "Native Americans" is still offensive as Indians because it relies on western ways of thinking and our desire to name and control the world.

2nd grouping all "idiginus persons" (still falls in same us/them catagories) into one basket is racist in and of itself because it ignores the differences between differnt groups of people who settled here.

So to the person that said I don't care that my name is offensive I would say it is not offensive, and that their is no proper term to use.

My blood quantum argument: Why you say things like "if your not x race you can't say that" is racist. Many authors who study this stuff write extensivle about it, and just in case you care I do have native americans in my family. I am not directly realated to them, but they are their.

and link to the song that inspires my name. Yall are some dumb haters.

So in your mind, is there ever going to be an acceptable amount of time that has gone by which would exonerate these companies from atrocities committed decades ago? Or, is this kind of a commercial version of Original Sin where each successive generation of employees and investors is going to be culpable until the end of time for "sins" committed in the past?

Blue- I agree with the core of what your saying and if it were 1950 I would do the same thing your doing, however its 2010 and I think the above statement pretty much sums it up. When will you let go?
Oh, and your computer is from japan. If not I challenge you to post a picture of your 100% American made computer.
