Now that the queen has passed, I wish I held on to this one.

I haven’t reached that point yet but please don’t ask me which coin meant the most that my ex-wife stole. There’s too many of them. I rebuilt my collection and it’s different but I still miss my old childhood collection. My father gave me a lot of those coins when I was still in high school. That’s what no doubt sparked my interest in this hobby.

I sold it because I was in need of money at the time, but I really regretted it.

I have a lot of Brazilian coins that I can sell, especially the ones with errors, but I'm very attached to them. I managed to sell some time ago to one of you CT members, but I confess that it was very difficult for me, mainly because I am very worried about the delay in shipping from Brazil to other countries. The last delivery took 40 days. I almost died of anxiety until the coin reached its destination.

I don't so much regret "re-homing" the following three coins (because they worked out very well for me in a financial sense) but had my bank account allowed me to keep them, I'd happily add these back into my collection:

Once I really needed the money but I refused to touch my collection. I got by and didn’t sell anything. Don’t even think of your collection as a means to raise money for whatever your needs are. It’s a collection and consider it untouchable. You’ll find a way to get by. Eat less, take a part time job, do odd jobs for cash. If you think about and do it, you will be successful.

Well, I have mixed feelings about this one. I sold my complete Morgan set back in 2017. As part of the proceeds, I bought this 1893s, for about half the price I sold it for in 2020. It was nice to have a really good example of the Morgan King, but this enabled me to branch out and buy Jefferson Nickels, Franklin Halves complete proof set, many British Commonwealth and UK coins, and world crown coins. So, lots of mixed feelings. Here are its auction pictures:

Mine was a 1916-D PCGS G4 Mercury dime that I sold for $350, (less than my purchase price) to my young State Farm agent who I funded/advised in his business establishment.

He needed that coin for his set, was strapped for funds, and I had a lightning fire/explosion in my home, which State Farm had stalled upon, foolishly hoping for agent assistance.

State Farm just stalled through the Statute period, and offered a ~25% settlement after I illegally built a 2nd home on the property, where they paid the token, cancelled all insurance, making my property generally uninsurable by others.

I knew the final result in advance, but had to establish reality for future actions.

Some coins regardless of market value, are just sentimentally worth more.

    Hello Collecting Nut,
Not sure I completely agree with you as sometimes, like in my case, a collector may lose interest in collecting a certain type. If he/she can sell those coins and perhaps put the cash towards a more interesting variety, why not?
However, I do agree with not selling any coins you are still 'in love with'!

But if you lose interest and sell them what do you do if you regain your passion for them?

I really don't know what I would do if I had this coin and I really needed the money. I think I would even sell it, but I would be very sad after that, mainly because of the very high value and little availability of this coin on the market.

This isnt actually the coin ,but its a image of the variety. I sold it to Alan of Coinzip maybe one day it will come back...as we have done our share of horse trading over the years. If you dont know Alan or coinzip you should;) Image00002-150x150.jpg Image00003-150x150.jpg Image00004.jpg

When you been a collector for 50 years there's probably more than 1 you wish you never let go.. $(KGrHqFHJCcE-ffTjhSNBPss+uuRmQ--60_12 61012 o-crop-crop.jpg $(KGrHqJ,!joE-msMp+hrBPss+vq(i!--60_12 61012 r-crop-crop.jpg

That’s one token I would really like to have. I can understand why you didn’t want to let it go. I just purchased a CWT with just the Monitor on it. Can’t wait for it to arrive. Maybe Saturday it will arrive.

Before selling I have to be D@#% sure that passion is kaput! Once I make up my mind on something, such as what we are discussing, it's pretty much set. Each person is different so I'd caution against rashly selling any part of your coin collection without giving it a lot of thought. (Mine was considered over a period of 2 years before selling)
    But to each his own,

I sold my entire collection about 12 years ago and I regret that. I had several complete sets and a partial Whitman Classic album of Seated Half Dimes. I've started over since and my collection is better than it was last time around.
