Returns. How likely is it the coins you receive have been returned once, judge not being nice by some one enough, for PF or MS 70?
My 3 coins look great. It looks like I'll keep the extra two for a while since the goofballs on ebay are selling them with a buy it now price of $45 or so that will net them a big 2 bucks or less after fees. I'm sure there will be a market for them in the future, or I may give them to kids....
I wonder what the hold up is. I have an order of 10 Unc's made on 3/26. My order placed on 3/23 (first day) shipped the next day. Are they really still producing the coins at this point? Or are they in fact waiting for more returns so as to repackage and ship them to fill outstanding orders (as some posters have posited)? I will be very interested to see the sales figures (hopefully) released tomorrow. As it will include sales for the first full week period, it will give us some concrete insight into if and when these will sell out. I have ordered 20 each of UNC and Proof (four total orders), but I may cancel my last proof order. I'm not keen on the idea of having to painstakingly pore over 20 proof coins to see if they have any defects. As long as they are MS-68 or better, I would be happy. I would be perfectly content to save these raw. I guess I'm naive. I thought 99% plus of the coins produced by the mint are at least MS/PF-69 (and a tiny percentage are MS-68). Thus, I thought that I could just do a quick eyeball check to see if each of my coins is in its packaging and just store them away. It never occurred to me that they might be defective in some way. What do you think the chance is that a given coin is less than MS-68 (not a rhetorical question, I really want to know). Do some coins from the mint really have scratches on them? Should I be concerned about scratches on the capsules, too? Thanks
I guess I should have mentioned in my previous post, what my goals are in buying 20 of each version of these coins. I have no interest (and do not have the required expertise) to send them all to be graded and get back some PF/MS-70's to 'flip' as they say for easy, substantial profit. Rather, I am hoping (perhaps forlornly that the raw prices of these coins will settle in at the retail prices of $100 each (or thereabouts). I plan to hold on to them. I will keep two of the best examples for my personal collection
ahhh to be a coin dealer and be able to do that for all your collection! I some times wonder what my dealers personal collection looks like.
I have noticed that my second order for proofs have shipped out today but my MS order is still in backorder and is expected to ship 4/20.
I ordered 100 of each the first day. The proofs arrived a few days ago. The MS were listed as backordered until 4/14, but they shipped a package on 4/2 and the package* arrived yesterday. *Package arrived with 100 Presidential $ proof sets instead of the MS Boy Scouts. :headbang: So much for quality control at the mint. Why couldn't it have been a box of 100 gold eagles sent by mistake instead?
Because the US Mint doesn't currently sell gold eagles to individuals... You ought to be currently hoping for a mistaken shipment of Proof Gold Buffalos or First Spouse gold coins... and hope that you have a really good excuse for why you didn't return them when they track down that shipping error!
76% ain't too shabby for less than 2 weeks......... I say sold out before May 1..............If they destroy the returns maybe next week...............early...:kewl:
I didn't know that the free 'expedited shipping' for an order over $300 is UPS next day air. Nice, I should have my 15 proofs tomorrow.
I just sent back my both my proof and unc BS comm coins. I also sent back my extra proof and unc disabled vet coins as well. After nearly 25 years in the modern comm collecting business, I am thinking it is time to move on and try to sell all the modern comms that I have and only keep the gold. This will be super difficult for me since the foundation of my collection was my near complete modern commem coin collection. Since I am still in the comptemplating stages, nothing is final, but maybe coming one day soon to the open forum will by my commemorative coin collection. You can see pics in my album. It just gets me sick just thinking about it, but it has to be done.
