Interesting. The character 中 just left of the crown looks as it it were scribed rather than chopped. I don't think I've seen that before.

Here are my 2 my chopped 8 reales:

    Mexico 8 Reales 1869 chops.jpeg

Ive seen that mark before.. I cannot recall where... but yes I agree looks more inscribed than a stamp.
I bet with a little research you could find it.

Nice looking coin but I don’t recall ever seeing chop marks that small. I’ve only seen larger ones.

It's the character for "middle" and "China".
It's used for one of the three dragons in Mahjong, but also a bunch of other places, including the name for China (中國).

Yes you rang my bell on a Mahjong tile....I sort of have a photograph memory....it may take another stimulate to recall...but I guess thats why Im good at varieties as dates and mint marks dont alway stick...but shapes, places, items gives me hints to go on....then its refence to follow up on .
As I've often been asked how I can remember so many varieties? Well actully I dont.... some yes most by association or stimulant shape ,series. That may sound strange but like some find it difficult to remember names... Paul & Susan = Salt &Pepper....yeah to some may sound stupid but it works.
I recall taking an course on osteology. To remember the bones in a numan hand we had a saying....
Never lower Tillys pants grand ma may come home. Using the 1st letter in each word one can remember all the bones....but yeah thats exactly where I know that marking.
