I'll only rank those who played in the last round.

Five players booked the 10 graded mark, so had another of thier lowest scoring grade dropped... Every 11th grade you get to drop your lowest.
    BadThad:hail: - drops lowest 3
    RLM's Cent's:hail: - drops lowest 3
    Louie2bits:hail: - drops lowest 2
    Duke:hail: - drops lowest 3
    Shoe:hail: - drops lowest 2

Gonna add variety this week.. 2 NGC and 2 ANACS

Gotta have at least 10 graded to rank now.

Rankings (points reflect average points off tpg grades):
GOLD - Duke - 1.70 (ha,, back in the pilot seat)
    SILVER - Louie2bits- 1.73 (jumping up)
    BRONZE - MPCUSA - 1.90
    4th - RLM's - 1.97
    5th - BadThad - 2.40
    6th - Shoe - 3.05

As we continue to drop lowest scores every point becomes more critical.

    And now....

Here is the next set: 14 & 30 ANACS, other two are NGC.

weekend bump... let's get those picks in... Next round is prep'ed and ready to go... after round 9 we'll take a fun break and give everyone a shot at a few from a 3rd level tpg, results will not be included in the rankings.... Maybe we'll make it a winner wins them for free round... Have fun, enjoy this Easter weekend.

    Round 8 recap:

First,, congratulations Duke and RLM's... both now at 37 submitted grades in this lil'exercise.

Second,, I don't know where the heck justafarmer came from,,, but if he hits round 9 like round 7 and 8, he'll be jumping right in neck and neck with the established elite cent graders I've seen post here.

    NGC grades -
64 - PRF68 RD - Was it that easy ? , or did everyone just throw thier hands up and cheat off of justafarmer ;)
    39D - MS66 RD - no one went higher than 65,,, huh..
    ANACS grades -
    30 - MS63 RD
    14D - F12 BN

    Opinions:
64 - I don't know enough about proofs to offer one,, but it's a pretty cameo with clean fields. I probably would have said 66 or 67... ya'll did good to see 68 imo.
39D - Lots of luster and nice strike. Sometimes pictures exaggerate nicks,, it's smoooooth in hand.
30 - Nice red coin,, I would have gone 64.
14D - Upgrade candidate. Nice brown coin.

Awards for this set of cents:
Best - RLM's - .75 > Anytime you can stay within, or beat, 1 point off a tpg grade over four coins by grading from pics,,,, I stand and clap.. outstanding.
HA - Louie2bits - 2.5 ;),,,, really a good round too. When the HA starts going out to folks who nail 2 of 4 coins exactly, miss another by 2 points,,, then you know the competition is incredibly adept.

    Others:
Justafarmer - 1.... sheeze man ! Your scaring me... After the next round you'll have your minimum 10 to rank among the regulars....... you'll easily rank first if you keep up this insaine pace.
    Duke - 2.25

Everyone did very well in this round.... the 14 was the hard one.

    Round 9.. and another four.

Sorry BadThad,, I was thinking that I should let round 8 simmer a few days past the weekend..... my bad.

Also,,, for those in the game. We are down to 3 final rounds.... that should be more than enough to decide CoinTalk's BEST CENT GRADER...
... will also throw in a fun round,, maybe two,, to break up the exteme pressure ; )

I find it hard to believe that the 39D is deserving of a 66 grade. WAY too many nicks IMO to go that high. I would've been in the MS 64.4 range, :goofer:

nevermind, I had a momentary loss of my faculties.

you have been giving us critique, and I haven't paid close enough attention.

    Yea that 39 doens't look like a 66.
Look at the reverse at 9 o'clock...what even is that on it?

39d - The coin does have a lot of luster, definitely more than normal... but even with the nics somewhat exaggerated in the pic, they are still there,, and there are a few of them now that I take a second look,,, plus the stain or discolor at 9'oclock on the reverse (also a bit exaggerated, but still there)...... why 66,, because NGC said so ;)

What can we say..... Tpg variability

NGC really sucks for giving that coin a 66. They gave me a 66 on mine, I was 100% robbed! BS!

I 100% agree you were robbed. If they honestly think both of these are 66 RD then I'ma monkeys uncle.
Is it NGC that has a grade guarantee?
Baha, why not send it to NGC and ask them to send you a real 66RD in the mail. This one is overgraded, and I hope you didn't pay 66 money for it.
Is there a big price jump between 65, 66, and 67?
Dick, you're the guy for this one, you are always pluggin for the 67's :)

My guess it that it is more what we are not seeing - luster. Look at what the OP said about the luster on his coin. Thad takes much better pix, but his does not show fantastic luster and there appears to be some spotting beginning. I probably would have guessed 67 for Thad's, but 66 does not astound me.

    Pricing, 66 = $23; 67 = $72. Not that wild.

Only thing I could say, other than normal tpg variability (which we should all know exists to some degree), is that from the pics minee appears to have more luster... Thad's is much cleaner from a details perspective....

Price difference's are minor imo,,, around a normal bar tab on the weekend:eating:
