1898 Barber Quarter; Extreme Cud or Damage?

    I found this puppy floating around in the bargain bin today. At first I thought it was plugged, but there is zero evidence of any damage on the obverse.     Sorry but it's damage. The coin was used as a pin and you're seeing the solder remnants

    Yes, just like @Oldhoopster ssid. A jewelry piece was soldered onto the coin and had since been removed. The obverse appears to have been polished.

    Yup, once used as a pin, if you look across the coin under the wing, that is the remnant of the place where the pin holder was removed.
