I know nothing about SEGs...who they are...who founded them...if they're legit or a scam.....if they are closer to one of the other TPGs in terms of grading skill and accuracy.
It was started by Larry Briggs in 1998. The grading can be hit or miss and the market doesn't really value the slabs above raw pricing (with some exceptions of course). There was a rumor that something happened in 2021 (see thread below). I'm not sure on the veracity of that though. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/is-segs-still-operating.374974/
Bottom line, if your reputation is tarnished your through in the TPG grading service just ask Jason Bradford of PCGS Currency, spent most of the time in China trying to adopt a child only to let his company go belly up No more company and no more registry
The new grading service has already hired a bunch off experienced PCGS/NGC graders, and is run by one of the founders of the slabbing services. They have instant credibility on the marketplace. Announcement will be coming soon!
@Insider, remember when I suggested this a few months ago and you replied something along the lines of, “that would be basically impossible?”
Well, yeaaaah. But that's just because he was forgetting our motto - the difficult we do immediately, the impossible just takes a little longer
Yes I do! I just read it again today. When there is so much business that two major companies and a sticker service cannot provide a reasonable turnaround time something's going to give. Looks like it has. Since the big submitters account for the two major TPGS volume, they can decide where they send their coins. When enough leave a TPGS it wlll hurt. There is no way a public company (PCGS) can compete. The way I see it, ANACS will survive due to the telemarketers. ICG will survive due to the collectors. NGC will survive due to its diversity. SELL YOUR PCGS STOCK folks!
