The 42/41-D, though, is a lot more subtle (see @ldhair's images upthread).

    No, just attempting to cherrypick

It would be hard to cherry pick this one as it stands out very well. The Denver is a little more difficult to see but if you look at the 4 it’s very noticeable.

I've seen quite a few reports here of it happening, though. There are apparently still plenty of people who think all 1942/1s have a big unmistakable 1, and completely overlook the D variety.

That D is harder to see than the Philly one. The Philadephia issue is quite noticeable as compared the Denver issue but if you look at the 4 it’s unmistakable and easy to spot.

I agree. The 42D is more subtle but not that difficult to spot.

To me, it's subtle enough that I sometimes think I spot it on coins where it's not present. There are a lot of die-trailing and lighting-induced features that look kind of like an appendage coming off the base of the 4. But to identify the overdate, you have to spot the exact feature there, and confirm it with the rest of the markers.

Yes, I do. I was looking at the right side "wing" of the W which on my coin looks doubled, probably just PMD or die wear, though. I don't see it on any of the high grade examples I looked at on the Heritage site.
