It seems they are "reworking" their type set point algorithm and resetting all the coin/set score... (at least that's my working theory) My set has dropped from over 30k to 26k and I am finding NOTHING on site to explain all the sudden point changes. hardest hit are 2 of my toppop coins that I had purchased specificaly for their high type scores... they lost over 3.4k points and the only "gain" I showed was changed back to it's original lower score... I've sent an e-mail asking edited is going on, but I'm not expecting any kind of reasonable answer... Anybody hear something I haven't?
I gave up on the whole registry idea when they didn’t allow pcgs coins. I couldn’t care less about registry points anymore
They stopped giving points to pcgs coins. Was maybe 7-8 years ago. Unless they changed it back. I stopped caring then
The only person I need to impress is myself.... yeah I like to share my collection ....but at the end of the day....they are to my liking...not others...I place my values....both montery as well emotional attachments to them... with any luck ...I'll have them another 15-20 years....then again they will be up for grabs...like they were pre....me.... No worries about their scores...as if I didn't like them in the first place , they be in some one else's collection.
NGC stopped allowing PCGS several years ago, the result ended up with lots of sets deleted and the backlash was so bad they eventually reversed the decision.
In a way I need to thank NGC and Mainebill... NGC for agrivating me enough to make this post, and Bethany's sig reminded me they they have MANY varieties of type sets. So started 2 one circulated (as most of my 19th century coins are AU or under) The other the full 19th century set no gold. Most importantly this opens MANY slots for coins that I have a much higher interest in then those remaining in my 7070 (like the rest of the h10s and the other varieties of bust and seated dimes and lots more quarters and halves (and 3-4 dollars I doubt I will ever afford lol) (but all 3 of my present barber coins are 20th cen.. so i get to shop for those all over again yay me ) So rather then being pissed about lost point from "modern" coins I don't much care about, I can go back to concentrating on my prefrered 18th and 19th century coins with the several new sets i've just started Including ranked 23 https://www.ngccoin.com/registry/competitive-sets/411528/ ranked 53 https://www.ngccoin.com/registry/competitive-sets/411550/?page=2
Yep. i just started with registry sets on NGC a year ago and both are accepted. I don't take points into consideration when deciding what coins to buy though. As far as type set scores changing, my 7070 + Gold went up in rank, but I don't have any idea which coins gained or dropped in point value.
I really dont pay any attention to have they score things either so I dont have a clue what could have happened. The registries are good for keeping track of inventory but theres not a lot of people that will buy just for the points in terms of grade. They do encourage filling holes in the set but so do albums and just the idea of needing a full set. I did delete all my registry sets several years ago because of that hole filling aspect after buying a couple things for it that I just didnt care about at all.
I did buy a few of the moderns specificaly for points but then I didn't care much about the moderns and most were fairly cheap. (pf69UCs for the most part) I don't really care that much about the points but the sudden reversal of position in the ranks, upset me slightly but in the end turned out to be a good thing as I will now readjust my collecting back to my preferences instead of being "limited" by a specific "set"
You can go into your set history and see what has changed. Mine went down as well and looks like there are a lot of red down arrows next to a lot of sets. My big hit was on the 76 quarter. Was worth over 3000 points and now down to 249. I never knew why it was worth so many points. Guess they realized it isn’t.
Thanks for reminding me about the set history. None of my coins changed. So apparently I gained in rank due to other people losing points.
I think I dropped about 7 spots in rank. I’ll never get very high with that set so I don’t really care.
I won't be holding my breath. I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of point bonus for coins that are crossed from a rival. (Although I guess they wouldn't necessarily want to call attention to it if the coin crossed with an improved grade...)
I mainly use the NGC registry as an off site inventory of my slabbed coins. I'm finishing up my IHC set but really don't care how high my set ranks. i couldn't afford it anyway.
