What is a good price to pay? Say for a proof? Or any other one in good condition?

    Pilkenton almost uncirculated

Go on ebay. You should be able to get a beautiful one for way less than 10 bucks.

A great website I've found is coinflation.com that will give you current prices of silver and US coins

I'm wondering if you are new to coin collecting. Is this a bullion investment, or are you looking for a coin in mint condition. Good condition, well, isn't very good. And proof is a method to mint coins with a mirror like finish. Proof isn't the condition.

If you are just interested in acquiring an average circulated silver quarter, the going price is usually $3-$3.50 depending on where you buy it. If you want a nice mint condition coin then the year and mint mark will make a difference. If you need more advice on this, just ask.

Thanks! And yes, I am new to this. I find it very interesting and have realized that if I'm going to collect I should find a particular coin/item to collect. Right now I have been really digging pre-64 q's, morgans, and peace dollars....

If you are going to invest in Morgans, understand that they mostly weren't circulated. So, you can get a nasty looking Morgan for about $20. Or you can get a AU-50 Morgan for about $30. The choice is yours.

i just got 154, pre-64 quarters. i guess they will be nothing more then a silver investment, not much of one, but they were free! i also found a barber and standing liberty with them.

you should be able to either find one cheap, or you might even get a nice one in change!

its in my intro thread. but basicly my girlfriends mother knew i always wanted to start a coin collection. she found her ex husbands collection in the attic and gave them to me. i got a ton of good stuff out of it. best coin so far was a 1899 liberty double eagle $20.

thats enough though, don't want to hijack the thread!

Question......why do people on here always want pre-1964 coins. If they don't want the 1964 coins, since they aren't pre-1964...I'll take them for 2X face value.
