Reference: California pioneer fractional gold: Historic gold rush small change 1852-1856 and suppressed jewelers' issues 1859-1882 (Paperback) ~ Walter H Breen (Author) ( Walter Bree with the collaboration of Ronald J. Gillio). ------------------------------------- This book above sales for over 300 dollars. I will buy my own copy someday. I noticed that ANA had a copy, but I do not live near there. Does any one know of a source on the internet or other accessible publication where I can get reliable information to populations and rarity scores for BG graded coins. I am especially interested in period one (prior to 1856?) and period two jewelers (1859-1882). ------------------------- I am interested in more information for: BG-819 (Lib Rd) 1860/50, .25, AU; BG-751 (Lib Oct) 1869, .25, MS62; BG-767 (Lib Oct) 1871, .25, MS60; BG-817, (Lib Rd) 1873, .25, AU-58; BG-838, (Lib Rd) 1871, .25, AU-58; BG-1202, (Lib Rd) 1853, 1.00, AU-50; BG-751, (Lib oct) 1869, .25, MS62; BG-222 (Lib Rd) No date, .25, MS63; rarity4 (curious of Rarity pop for other grades). ______________ I need to make some decisions in my expanded set building. More information might help. Due to financial constraints, I need to rethink which area(s) I wish to develop. Of all the coins, I have collected, this series is by far the most exciting and challenging (and expensive). Thank you very much.
You don't need to live near the ANA to use their library, you just need to be a member. They will mail the books to you. But which book exactly is it that you want ? There are 2 you know. One was published in 1983, this one - First Edition - 160 pages, hard cover - and the second published in 2003 - Second Edition - 264 pages, paperback And you might also want to look at getting a copy of Private Gold Coins & Patterns of the United States - by Don Kagin. It contains everything you want and a whole lot more, including the private mints located in Appalachia, Utah, and Oregon - not just California. And you can buy it for a fraction of the price of the other book
Thankyou. You gave some very helpful info. I appreciate the lead on the books. I will also check with ANA about their book loan policy. I am a member.
Since you are a member you can borrow he books form the library for the cost of postage (media mail) and insurance both ways. It's CHEAP and one of the best perks of ANA membership. I don't remember if the borrowing period is four or eight weeks, and if no one else has requested it I believe you can extend the loan period by phone.
Thank you. - I am looking forward to it. I am distracted with taxes right now, and the unexpected appearance of several of the coins on my list coming around for sale.
