hello, i have here a big heavy silver coin. It looks like from the Mughal Empire, someone said it was from Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar. But i have my doubts, it rather looks like the sultan from the 18th century.
i got another one, this is a bit older i think. thanks for the help guys, i think this one will be a bit harder.
It is Akbar's Rupee(likely from Agra Mint) but the slanting picture hides the details and inscription. Next time try to capture photo directly above the coin at the angle of 90 Degree and not from the angle of 45 or less. from Shariq Khan Live Coin Chat at http://coinsindia.info
hi shariqkhan, i have posted a better picture of the mughal coin. check it out. i also posted 2 more indian?persian?arabic? coin, could you take a look at those to?
Last three images are still blurred. I am checking for the mint of Akbar's Rupee(First Coin) from Shariq Khan http://coinsindia.info
Mukremin, if I squint hard I can convince myself I see (Shah) Abbas II on the reverse of your 2nd coin (third photo). Would be much easier if you could get the inscriptions a bit better in focus -- the letters are in good condition and the date would be clear. Very nice coins!
wow shah abbas II, thats cool. So the coin is like 400 years old. any value of the safavid coin? i will make more pictures, because i have a couple of other coins whit arabic inscription. With my digital camera its hard to make a good picture, and BTW did you managed to check the second abbasid coin? and the last coin i posted.
It is certainly a very pretty coin. Unfortunately, I don't know much about prices, others here would know better. Since you have so many old and interesting Islamic coins, do you own a copy of Richard Plant's Arabic coins And How to Read Them? If not, it's a great book, it is easy to find online, and it has helped me to learn to read Kufic script and other details. I will look again at the other Abbasid coin, but I think it was very low contrast, and too blurry to make much out. The last coin here I don't recognize at all, but with a better photograph I might be able to read it. But please include both sides of the coin . I find digital cameras very difficult to use myself.
thanks zuhara, youve been a wonderful help. i keep strugling with my camera. i will post the other coins as well, and will look into that book you mentioned. ill keep the post updated.
another set of coins, i hope i am not to fast on this. the coins are arabic, the second and third could be indian. the last one is just the front picture, but unknown.
The Indian coin is from the kingdom of Jaunpur (796-881/1394-1476) and is a coin of Hussain (863-881/1458-76). The back reads "Hussain Shah (son of) Mahmud Shah (son of) Ibrahim Shah". If you get Richard Plant's book, it is illustrated on page 71. I like the stylized writing on these coins.
