A New Source for Coins and Bills

After a year of showing my finds and telling my staff that I collect coins and bills, they finally started to bring me items for my collection. It was frustrating to hear that someone had just cashed in $50 of pennies that their parents had given them which they had been saving for years after I had just told them that I would buy anything that they had.

Well, in the last few days things started to change. My boss's mother brought me three obselete Greek bills and earlier in the week I received three bills from Pakistan. One of the waitresses is bringing me a large jar of coins that her grandparents had given her that she just wants to cash in. I have no idea what's in it but it'll be fun to go through.

A Chinese employee gave me a set of uncirculated (modern) bills and current coins. His father is a banker in China and also a collector. He's going to be sending me a collection of early paper money and some ancient coins in the new year.

Another employee goes to the States regularly and brings me back anything he thinks I might find interesting. Mainly, it's been state quarters but now I have him looking at bills.

It's a fun way to collect because you have no idea what's going to show up.

Cool for you. For security purposes, I don't share my hobby with most folks, even those at the office.

    Hello everyone,

Since we are on the security topic...There are family members that do not come over to my house. i visit them:smile.

As far co-workers, yeah no one really knows. i keep it hush, a few good friends know and some family, but not all.

Concerning how this thread was started, thats pretty cool. I am sure that is like getting birthday presents all year long, lol.

    Regards,
    Stan

not to mention the costs and hoops involved. safe deposit boxes, insurance, alarms, PO boxes, and the CC permits.

True, but invest in the proper security system, and no one will ever mess with you.

I don't have a problem sharing the fact that I collect coins & paper money with my friends, family & co-workers but I also make it a point that I collect guns too!

Many people know that I collect world banknotes & coins. but only a handful of those have seen my collection. I dont even think my parents know where my collection is... i'm hoping to keep it that way!

as for the original post: that's pretty sweet, I have had similar success having co-workers from all over the world bringing me money that they dont want and just take up space.
