Hey guys , I have aquired a few pices as of late and I thought that I could share them with you guys. I added about 23 new pieces to my web site and I have to say I'm quite pleased with the results , I'm going to have time this summer to really add stuff to the side , various articles and what nots If you so happen to visit my site please tell me what you think , criticism is needed and if you would like to see something done or changed or anything don't hesitate... even if it's to tell me how bad it sucks Here are some new additions , if you have any interesting information about the pieces do post it as I would love to add any information to my collection website.
On a side note I found out first hand how a copy stand for macro shot is a life saver. I can now take decent shots in a very low amount of shots. I remember having to take thirty or so photos of the obverse and reverse in order to have one mediocre looking one... now with my copy stand I achieve a steady shot one hundred percent of the time. I also bought some spots with fluorescent bulbs. The light stands are pretty useful too as I can set various angles and heights to suit my numismatography needs I also purchased a photo cube that diffuses the light that ended up to be the most useless buy in 18 months.. On a side note here is a picture of another of my collecting hobbies ; it's a 30's Gillette Aristocrat that I picked up on kijiji a few months ago. It was quite a steal and quite the score. *Note that numismatography is not a word
1895 Mintage: 8,877 KM# 778 4 Pence (Groat) 1.8851g., 0.9250 Silver .0561 oz. Ruler : Victoria It's a groat (four pence) that was part of a Maundy set given out on maundy thursday Wiki on the money "Maundy money, legally called "the Queen's Maundy money"[1] is money in British silver coins given to deserving poor people in a religious ceremony performed, in many periods with the participation of the monarch, on Maundy Thursday (the Thursday before Easter)." I really like it because there is only a mintage of 8877 and the tonning is very nice thanks Dime
This is an example of the 3 pence piece , it's in great condition and has a nice tonning. 1887 was Queen Victoria's jubilee, she had been named queen 50 years prior. I'm still working on the entire 1887 set , I love the jubilee bust..
Those are certainly interesting, i dont get into the ancient stuff much but this is pretty cool..... Quick Ebay search yielded some pretty pricey coins Good luck with it
Well i go to my Western Civilization class today and wouldnt you know it, have the lecture was on Queen Victoria. After class I asked him if he was familiar with pence and he quickly replied NO........He did however tell me what little he knows and he explained that they were kind of like food stamps? He said the silver ended up being worth more then the benefits you got from the coin so they stopped the program after they realized they were not circulating as much So if what he says is true then that piece is really sweet and has to be rare considering they were highly circulated
Here's one of mine, it's got a little nick but it's still one of my favorite coins with St George killing off the Dragon. :thumb:
