Sigh...I so want to participate in this but I don't have a digital camera (sold my old one for textbook cash). I have so many nice Mercs but oh well, I'll just have to enjoy other's pics. I am however a traditionalist and love the bright sheen and luster of the silver with no tone, but to each his own.
Consider getting some plastic polish. Less expensive than getting a coin reholdered. I personally use the 3-part Novus.
Thanks for posting some more nice WWII era dimes, folks. Here's another one of my recent raw purchases:
Those are some nice dimes so I thought I'd make a contribution. Here is a 1944 D/D dime that a picked up a while back, it has some lovely peripheral toning to it.
Dang, ksparrow! That Liberty sure did have a mighty fine hair dresser! Just look at the detail of those locks...
Until I was approached by someone with some nicely toned Mercs for sale, I honestly had no idea they even existed! (seriously!) I was quite content with my white set. Knowing the possibilities that exist was a real eye opener. (My overdates, however, are circulated battleship gray... still in keeping with the WWII theme!)
I have that same set...all blast white. But that first coin in this thread is so nice... The others are nice to but I just love that first one!!
Try to revive this thread but i cant get a get picture through the holder…….. 1945 S PCGS MS 66 NO FSB
Your 1944-S is spectacular, but appears to be in a rattler and not an OGH as I think you may have stated within the thread. Unless, of course, your use of OGH includes the rattler generation of holder. This will be my first attempt to embed an image on CT, so let's see if it works-
Tom, that's a superb dime! Beautiful color gradation and on both sides, too. Dimefreak-- I hope you can get a better photo of your dime, because it looks like a winner. (( I may be a bit loose in my use of the OGH term-- I guess if it has a green label I think it's "Old." ))
Outstanding Tom! MS68FB IIRC. This is one of the top ten toned Mercury Dimes I have ever seen. I visit Ivy League Coin every once in a while just to look at it. Paul
WOW! I don't think we have seen that before. My guess is MS67 FB with incredible luster and no shortage of eye appeal. A wonderful Mercury Dime type coin!
Thanks, Paul, the dealer who sold me this one and several of the others I've already posted, sold some from the same group to another collector who sent them in to PCGS- they all came back 66 or 67-- as you can see this one is still in the 2x2!
