Anybody notice what these things have been selling for lately?! Me and another guy sent five of them in from the mint and all were 69s. So I sold mine and bought a MS70 Dec 22nd (8 months ago) for $230.
Then they climbed to $500. Now I see they're selling for $800-$1200! I can't believe the demand right now. Will it last? Will it keep going up? Anything's possible now.

I just happened to stumble on an auction while I was looking for Morgans and was surprised so I did a sold search. It's crazy. The last I looked at the population reports, there were less of them but it didn't seem to be THAT much less of them. Just looked. There's only 7k less of them than there are of the P Morgan or the Peace. That's apparently enough to cause the scramble.

As soon as you put a "70" grade on any U.S. coin, there will be registry buyers who will pay what it takes.

So far as the "Will it last?" question, I won't put it in my retirement portfolio, but that's just me. I have no faith in the value of high priced modern coins that mintages in the thousands and survival rates of close to 100%.

I never took mine out of the box, for $8-1200 I might.

A lot of QC issues with the Ds. I saw five of them in person. I sent one back to the mint with a major scratch. Saw a minor flaw on another and sent it off to NGC with some others. All came back 69. If it looks like a 70 I’d submit it.

  7. Mine is flawless. Maybe I’ll roll the dice and submit it. Congrats on the wise purchase. TC

May be. I did the short set for them on the registry. There’s 16 full pages of sets created with 50 sets per page. The first five pages are complete 70 sets. The last five pages are sets with only one or two, many who are probably not pursuing them and just entered what they had. So on the NGC side there’s currently about 550 potential registry players seeking them that may or may not already have one. Most likely a small percentage of 300. If it’s mainly registry guys it should play itself out soon. Say there’s 500 potential people at PCGS idk just throwing it out there. Maybe it’s enough to pull the market.

The one I sent in had a tiny 1 mm mark in the field of the bottom of the reverse. I figured it would get a 69 over it and it did. The pop report is funny on them. I think a lot got sent in without being taken out of the box. Some of them grading as low as 64s and 65s. Straight from the mint. Way more 69s than the rest.
