Was at the local, hometown bank today and my lovely wife noticed they had some proof sets for sale! The 2019S set also included this 2019W proof cent! Lines are in the plastic holder. Middle picture is of the proof sets still in the boxes! Will post pictures of the proof sets in other threads.
I wonder if they were part of a donation for a charity drive. My bank does it for collection of food.
Definitely odd. I can see a bank giving them away as a promotion to open an account or something, but selling them?
Did someone go into the bank and sell them at face value or something? Then the bank decided to try and sell them for more than face?
Last year I bought some ASE from that same branch. The other branches are not selling them!!! It is weird, but I'm glad they ahve them!
Usually when you see a bank selling coins the coins belong to a local dealer who is using the bank as a selling point with the bank getting a commission on the sales.
Wow, I had the impression that banks in general would want nothing to do with anything like that under their roof. Seems like it would crash headlong into all sorts of banking-specific regulations.
I can't even get a crisp new bill from my credit union. I like to give them to my grandchildren and soon a great grandchild (they haven't told me if it is a girl or boy yet.) for birthdays.
