I just picked this Proof 1882 Shield Nickel (Proof Mintage 3100) up after a bit of negotiation, I'm curious to see if it looks better in hand. It's in an ANACS blue holder. I kind of think it's a neat design, albeit short lived (1866-1883) and certainly not as iconic as the Jefferson or Buffalo nickels. Thoughts on grade? (I'm excited I'm using PhotoScape to crop my photos now - great recommendation from you all, my CoinTalk friends!)
Absolutely beautiful!! I am a huge fan of these old nickels .....sadly my collecting efforts with this series took a back seat when I started my Walking Liberty Half collection. Most coins in this series are very affordable....that's what I love most about them.
Another under appreciated series..that I love...as a variety collector theres sure a lot to look for or discover. Nice pick up
I love those early proof nickels that turn rainbow colors. And I’m not a toned coin collector! I’m in at PR-62.
I'll take better pictures once I have it in hand, but I don't like to wait forever for the reveal - so here's how it is graded now - thank you all for your comments and guesses! I am hoping it's a PR62 or 63 - congrats to Anthony Mazza for guessing Proof 61.
