I returned my proof and uncirculated Abigail coins. I just didn't like them. I think there is a lot to be said about eye appeal.... I don't think these will be worth more than the gold they contain, except for the Libertys, and perhaps the Elenor Roosevelt and Jackie Kennedy.

I plan to buy all of the Libertys. I bought the proof Jefferson for $600. The Van Buren and Jackson seem to be a little scarce, and artificially inflated on eBay.... I only see high Buy It Now prices, but nobody jumping at them... I'm certain I'll get them much cheaper if I'm patient...

i should said all 2009 first spouse 1/2 oz gold coin will pass $1,000.00 and can trade as high as $1,500.00 when the mint stop selling them. the first one will be the proof and unc version of anna harrison. this group of 10 coins (proof & unc) will be the keys for first spouse gold.

Elaine, I think your prediction of one of the Tyler (I think Julia) coins being the next KEY date is going to come true!

Everyone is saving up for the Lincoln and Buchanan (especially the Buchanan!)...they will (imho) ignore the ending of the Tyler coins.

A year or so ago a wise and brilliant statement was made to me by one of our fearless leaders.......and I will quote the great words of GDJMSP..."We have yet to see the keys to this series". It will only get worse before it gets better. My personal opinion is that the next few years will see mintages so low that collectors will all out lose interest in this collection, especially if gold continues to rise. People like me who have an interest will stop buying because we just can't afford the coins. Even when we see the First Spouses from 1960 onward, I doubt we will see much of a bump to be considered dramatic. I definitely think we will see a small bump mostly because many of us collectors will have a greater connection to Jackie or Lady Bird or Nancy than the fair ladies that are coming out today, but not one that is huge. Only time will tell on this collection. Will these coins be like the 1915 $50 gold pieces that only sold 400-600 pieces then 90 years later find that they are worth over $100,000? Only time will tell. Unfortunately, I won't be around to see that....and neither will any of you. That sucks.

Yakpoo's Rule #1 of Coin Collecting...

Collect because you enjoy it! If you're lucky enough not to lose your ass doing it...then great!

Yakpoo's Rule #2 of Coin Collecting...

Gold trumps Silver and Silver trumps Copper (it's a Macho thing). There will ALWAYS be a market for high-end gold coins minted by the US government...especially those with mintages less than 10,000.

Yakpoo's Rule #3 of Coin Collecting...

It usually takes about 70 years before significant price appreciation is realized. If you're looking to make money in coins now...stay away from modern coins. Stick with high-end KEY date coins in the 50-70 year range...or older.

modern coins can also prosper, like the 08w american gold buffaloes.

There are always freak exceptions to any rule, but generally speaking...I don't collect modern coins to make money.

    You know what they say...

"Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while!"

the first spouse gold may stay the same. since the average london gold price is still above the $1,100.00 level. just a reminder.

    mintage pop reduced

Beware. Mintage now approved to drop from the combined 40,000 to a mere 15,000 combined (proof and uncir).
