I think they ruined a perfectly good '35, but I know some of you like these things and I can respect that.

If it was anyone other than the Masons, I'd be ticked.....:)

Well when that was done it was not as rare to get one then probably like if you stamped a 2004 one now it's just this long after it seems weird that they would have done that.
But not when you look at it from a time standpoint.

Worth more now in my opinion, at least it is a convversation piece instead of an average grade 35

It's not actually mine to sell. It belongs to a friend who doesn't collect coins and I only borrowed it to take pics for you guys (but, he kept this one, so does that make him a coin collector?).

Funny you should say that because I told him he might get some offers for it - LOL. If you want to pm me an offer (unless that's against forum rules), I'll gladly forward it to him.

I think they defaced the coin, plain and simple.
I dont care if it was the Masons or Jesus of Nazerath that did it.
I know its only a cent, but its the principle of it.

Many of these are used as part of the ceremony when someone joins the masons. Everything is significant in the masons. usually the date on the penny is the birth year of the person joining. I am not a mason but had this explained to me by a friend who is.

Thanks for the heads up ziggy, I always see people asking "Why would somebody do this?". At least now we have a reason for at least this one. As for the others...God knows.

We can only hope someone is not just now joining that was born in 1909!
