How to detect harsh cleaning?

    Wow, seriously? Ha, some error hunter I am. Here's a potential planchet flaw just handed to me and I'm asking about how it was cleaned... :yack:
    I'll be sure to check Mint Error if I submit it to see what they say. Thanks for your evaluation, Insider.

    Now that we've seen the new pics of it I readily agree with that.

    You should also be aware that planchet flaws, when deemed to be severe enough, or in a bad location such as that one is, are also one of the many reasons for a coin to be put in a details slab.

    But, as I mentioned before, many graders are very lenient with this series. So it might be given a clean grade. If that same planchet flaw was on a different series, just a bit more modern series, I doubt it would be given a clean grade. But, ya never know in today's world.

    So with that planchet flaw, the chances are increased that it will get a details slab. However, if it does, it could be for the flaw or it could be for a perceived improper cleaning, or both. Or, well, neither of those and something else found, I suppose.
