1968 ms65 full steps

Discussion in 'What's it Worth' started by James warinner, Aug 3, 2022.

  1. Ok I sent my nickel in and just yesterday I got email from NGC that they want to conserve it they gave it a grade of ms65 5fs. I called and they said if I do it it will get the nickel a higher grade. I looked on line and the only price I could find is Ms 66 fs by pcgs at $4,100. Now that was in 2004. So I ask if anybody has more access to pricing( I have a cheep phone and pcgs won't let me on site) so I am thinking around 1000. What do you guys think and anyone who says 1968 was not a rare year for Ms fs do not bother to message for you do not have a clue. They also want to conserve my 1970 s small date penny. I said yes.

A 68-S FS sold for $1620 in a Heritage auction last month.

The 1620 was an NGC graded coin.
The PCGS graded coins and the one that you are saying sold for 4080, resold for 4140 in 2021.
There were 2 others that sold one in 2010 for 3738
And one in 2019 for 3120.

Even though NGC has much tougher standards.
You can forget getting the value of a PCGS graded coin in the same grade.

PS, when you get the coin back, please post some photos.
We would love to see it!

Just compare the cost of conservation to what you paid for the coin. Take the grade it was, add a grade and decide what is best to do.

Getting a higher grade before being slabbed, seems like a good idea for the long run.

I've looked at countless thousands of D and S nickels in '68 mint sets and have one that might go FS. It's an S of course but it's very nice; at least MS-66.

Even four steps are tough for both mints.

They're not rare in MS but are for steps, that's right. Those decades just don't have steps.

  13. Correct 5 or 6 steps and you have a rare 60's nickel.

  14. If you can see 5 steps in 5x mag send it in

  15. Just got email they upped the tier they are saying it is worth more than $2000.00

  18. I think pcgs coins are over graded and I will not use pcgs. NGC is who I will always deal with more consistent people will soon see pcgs are hacks and NGC will get deserved recognition. pcgs Is going to have a big secret revealing the poor service and terrible grading. But this is America today incompetent companies rule and are overvalued, but in the end they are all exposed. I am Deuteronomy 18:18.

James this is what you get when standards are no longer used.
The game is market grading right now, with loosening and tightening of grades.
PCGS and NGC are both guilty of the same game.

I would say though, if I was to have a nickel graded i would send it to NGC. They are the most competent in the series.
