Just got the 4 Reales. For those who are not familiar with Spanish silver here it is compared to a Capped Bust Half. As expected they are pretty much the same size, but the 4R is slightly larger in diameter and slightly thinner.

Won tonight, $12.45 with shipping. Very common in this condition, so why? 1900 saw new obverse and reverse hub types partway thru the year, and there are multiple combinations of obverse/reverse for each mint. This 1900-S is obverse 1 over reverse 3, the scarcest of the combinations. In my census of Heritage archives last year only one out of 120 coins had this combo. So this was a "just to have one" purchase.

 

Just won for $12 and change. I don’t have 1838 so this is a new addition, and I also liked this one because the reverse is about even with the obverse (at least from the seller pics). Early date Seated Dimes (and half dimes) have a recurring problem in which the reverse is much weaker than the obverse on circulated coins. @Paddy54 will know what I’m talking about here. This was common on Bust Dimes as well and was probably a strike issue on Bust Dimes when screw presses were used, but with steam presses used to strike Seated coinage this reverse wear seems to be a relief issue. The obverse was generally struck in higher relief than the reverse causing uneven wear. This issue was fixed around 1841 with the redesign to With Drapery, or soon after. It persists throughout 1841-O and 1842-O issues, but is, to my knowledge, rare on 1843 and after dimes.

 

I won a few tokens in the 10-30 range from the same seller (I'm a big fan of combined shipping ) These are two of my favorites. From PCGS - The exact source of the 1781 North American Tokens is unknown and has been attributed to Ireland because of the presence of a harp on the obverse. However, the tokens are similar to some contemporary Canadian tokens, so this is another possibility. Regardless of their source or where they circulated, the North American tokens have been accepted into the canon of U.S. "Colonial" coins. It reads, "North American Token 1781" on the obverse and "Commerce" on the reverse. I also like the ship and the price was $26. Then we have an 1834 Hard Times token featuring Andrew Jackson holding saber in right hand, with money bag in left hand with satirical legend reading "A Plain System Void of Pomp" on the obverse, and the Democrat donkey (with LLD lettering on) "The Constitution as I Understand It Roman Firmness" According to Numista - The image on obverse expressed contemporary fears that it was dangerous that the executive could control both the army and the treasury. The reverse image is because Harvard gave him an honorary LL.D., he was then portrayed as a Jackass with an LL.D. on its side. “The Constitution as I understand it” was his explanation of why he took the anti-federalist stance of putting the federal money into 25 pet State banks. Roman firmness was a jibe of the day to describe him. $16.66 for that one. Sellers pics.

 

$40 only picture,risky but still worth a try and hopefully some decent picks when it arrives.Seller says 100+ coins and 10+ silvers I'm not taking his word for it(yet).

I purchased these some time back , had a few dollar's left over ,and picked these 2 better dates Morgans. The 1889 S at one time a well sought after date and mm. The 1897 o a better date also... man @$20 ea. I be buying as possible in this shape.

Also got a bag of 1909-40 Lincolns for $0.03 apiece popped straight from a Lincoln album. Some really nice coins in there including a 22-D and 26-S. That’s what happens when you’re on great terms with your LCS!

Katanga was a breakaway state that proclaimed its independence from the Congo in 1960 with the support of big mining interests and Belgian military advisors. They were independent until 1963.
