Sending this 1880 CC in to have it re-attributed with VAM-3 (dash 8). While looking it over, the mint mark looks very odd. Both of the C's are closed and have chips and/or gouges inside them. They are also much wider than normal.

Cannot find any other VAM's with this MM listed. Is there a chance of a new discovery or is this deterioration of some sorts? IMG_20220727_091525.jpg IMG_20220727_091452.jpg IMG_20220727_091432.jpg IMG_20220727_091407.jpg IMG_20220727_091342.jpg

If you look at the same variety on PCGS Coinfacts, you will see images of other "dash" coins showing the same stuff inside the mint mark. So I would say it's part-and-parcel of the variety and not some other variety. Interesting that they don't specifically seem to call out that area of the coin, as it is quite prominent and would be a great additional diagnostic.

Example of what I am saying:

    I did find this: http://www.vamworld.com/wiki/1880-CC_VAM-3

OP photograph actually shows it better than the photograph in the link for the VAM.

I agree with VAM 8 but have a question for @Double Die. In your opening statement you said you were going to have it re-attributed . What was it before?

Upon a closer look, you are correct. Thanks for pointing that out. IMG_20220727_162006.jpg

It was graded by NGC as just MS64 with no VAM # attribution and found after the fact upon becoming the new owner. Resubmitted should have been my choice of words.
