I have started sorting through all the coins from my step father. It is just so depressing to see what he paid for some (most) of this stuff. As soon as I have some sort of system I will post some pictures. But as a general question, if coins (silver) are in poor condition, should they just go into the box of stuff to just sell as silver? Oh if anyone is interested I have several stamp/coin presentations to celebrate the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana:desk:. Also lots of those colored state quarters, halves and then there are the Gold Clad quarters:headbang:. Don't get me wrong, there are some really nice coins too, but geez............
Not necessarily. Just as one example off the top of my head, a 1916-D dime is worth probably a grand in G-4 condition, which is defined as "Good," but is actually pretty cruddy. Unless you're selling to me! Bring it on! I'll give you 10... no, 12X face for that one! :whistle: Joe
WyCo, unless you have to pay some sort of tax for inheriting your stepdad's coins you can take some consolation in the fact that he, not you, paid for the coins. Good luck with your exploration. I hope you come across a hidden gem or ten in the bunch!
If you can tell us where you are located we might be able to recommend a reputable dealer you can go to. There is so much to know that you will likely never sort it out yourself.
Kansas City. I think after I get all the junk sorted out and some sort of system to organize everything this could be a lot of fun. I have always liked old coins. Lots to figure out though.
I think I remember those Danbury Mint commercials from the 80's... If I recall correctly, their mugs on the coin(s) didn't even look like them...
I have some really cool holographic moon landing coins too:rolling: I shouldn't make light of the whole thing, I also found lots of silver dollars, halves, quarters, dimes, etc, etc. But it is stuff like this that just kind of makes you say "huh?"

WyCo... don't be in a rush. Get the red book, do some reading, watch a few threads on coin talk, and get an understanding first before you sell. Chances are you'll find stuff that has no value to you, really does have value to someone else. trust me.
