Reminds me of the holed, graffitied Trade dollar that passed through my hands a few years back. I'd be happy owning a coin like this, but not nearly happy enough to be high bidder.

Wonder what in the world they were shooting through that made all that pincushion distortion? A cheap magnifying glass?

Nicely done engraving on the rev. I'll guess 1050.

Oh, now I see the graffiti and the A on the Eagle's chest! Effing A, remember some people used to say that?! :D A nice $1100 coin!

sometime you can only afford what you can afford. lol
at one time I was trying to collect one of every major type.
The Dollars weren't as bad as the half dimes or half cents if I recall.

The early half dimes aren’t overly expensive for what they are. Some dates/major varieties like 1796/5 are just as rare as the 1802 yet sell for not much more than type. The real problem, of course, is finding them at all. Even collectors who are serious about avoiding problem coins may have to settle for minor problems on these coins.

The dollars are a lot more available. 1795 Flowing Hair Dollars actually aren’t rare at all. Sky high demand keeps prices very high however.

The seller forgot to mention that it is in a very rare 'warped' PSGS slab.

Very true! Early Draped Bust Half dimes, specially the small eagle type are very scarce. I still don't have one in my collection. 1795, 1800, 1803 (large 8) are scarce but available, other dates are scarcer, but not as much as the early dates you mention.

Coming back to the 1796 Dollar, my guess is it will hammer around $900-1000. However, I would not pay more than $600. Too much damage.

To think that I paid $700 for this example back around 1990.
