Hello again, I said in last thread I had two 1983 D Lincoln Cents to show, but have shown only one. Well, the other coin is that. Could be this one an error like RPM? Or just another Die Deterioration as that one posted? Any comments are welcome.
It's a plating issue with the Mint Mark. Definitely not a RPM. It's common on the Copper plated zinc cents.
If you look closely, you'll see that the 3, 8, 9 and 1 have the same issue on the same side - check the inside of the 8 too. So if it was a RPM ... why would the 1983 have the same indicators?
Looks like the early stages of zinc rot. As an interesting experiment, maybe put it in a flip and watch it become worse over time.
I agree, just don't understand why the issue in the Mint Mark is so strong and visible, while in the year almost not appears. Thanks @tommyc03, @Clawcoins and @Mountain Man for comments.
because you're mesmerized and transfixed by it, and it specifically .. thus the "RPM" The year looks visible too, although it's not in focus in your images thus not clear. The zinc rot around the mm could also be throwing you off. The shelf like area around the 8 and inside the 8 could be as long as the D too. Just too fuzzy an image to verify.
You're absolutelly right. I had taken a lot of photos, but none of them could shown what I could see using 40x lens on that coin. But now I really know it isn't a RPM. I'm Posting some of them specially for you @Clawcoins
