Hello, I also have found a 1953-D Wheat cent with some sort of spiked error on the date. Not sure how that happened or if it's worth a great deal ?
That got sheared off in a machine, I think a crimping or rolling machine. Or it could be a counting machine, I don't remember, exactly. But it's common, not a Mint error, and it's found on a wide range of dates.
It’s copper and copper is a soft metal. Therefore when hit it is easily moved and that’s what happened to this Cent. If you look at the date you can see where the 3 originally was and you can see it was hit on the right side which moved or removed metal to the the left side. It’s been damaged a long time ago.
